Destrahan Plantation Tour - Don't miss it. - Our tour guide was Judy. She was dressed in period clothes. She was very knowledgeable not only about the plantation but about New Orleans in general. Judy was very thorough in her narrative. She enjoyed questions about anything plantation or New Orleans related. We enjoyed talking with her so much, our tour went longer than usual. My wife and I were the only two people on our tour. Connie gave a great recap of the 1811 Slave Rebellion in the building dedicated to the event. Bill gave a presentation on how the early settlers made insulation out or Spanish Moss to be used as insulation for their buildings. Great place!!! Don't miss it.

Highly recommended! Jim was and AWESOME tour guide! - Our tour guide was Jim and he was EXCELLENT! Highly recommend Jim's tour as he is very knowledgeable and captivating to listen to. He engages the group and has a great sense of humour. The tour covers the story of the enslaved people on Destrehan as well as the history of the owners of the plantation. He shares many insightful details of the people living and working on Destrehan. He was never stumped by any questions and was very enthusiastic with talking to everyone and sharing details and answering questions. He has a gift for teaching which we learned was a previous career. We were pleased that this tour tells all the story of Destrehan's history and not from one perspective that we have encountered on other tours. Thank you Jim for an informative tour. Tip - We had lunch at Ormond Manor Restaurant as recommended by staff and it was excellent! Also highly recommended.

Just what we were looking for - So informative and fun! Beverly was the most knowledgeable guide. This tour was super close and convenient to and from New Orleans. The property was still just as beautiful as larger plantations in the area were described.

History Alive - The tour guides were very knowledgeable and interesting. They made the families come alive who lived there in the past. I was free to walk around and look at things more closely on the grounds after the guided tour was over.

not what we expected - The guide quickly regurgitated the spiel he had learned which made it very bland. We had to interrupt him to ask any questions (there were only 3 of us on the tour). The house and plantation history is interesting but if you want to hear anything about the slave revolt you need to take a self guided tour of another building and read about it for yourself.
