Always wonderful, and now they have a wonderful small cafe too! - I bring a group here nearly every April, and we've never had a bad time. They are always adding things to see, and their interpreters are very informative. A person could easily spend several hours here. And now they have a small restaurant on-site that serves breakfast and lunch. Food is reasonably priced and extremely good! I had seafood gumbo and potato salad. Honestly, the best potato salad I've ever had in a restaurant. My group mostly had a variety of sandwiches and all were freshly prepared and delicious.

An Example of History Not to be Forgotten - Our tour of Destrehan with Jim was both entertaining and enlightening. It's always a bonus to learn through enjoyment. The tour (which ended up private, as we were the only ones for our mid-afternoon timeslot) began with an overview, then a deeper dive as we walked through the rooms of the home. Although we learned about the construction and reconstructions of the home as well as some of the furnishings, the focus was more on the people who lived and toiled there. We thought Jim presented a well-balanced picture of the time period(s), the family members' progressions, and the enslavements; he was able to answer all of our questions. After the guided tour, we were free to explore the other buildings on the grounds; Ann was the docent in the museum building who also had answers to a variety of supposings. Destrehan is an important, yet tragic, part of the South's history, which we'd recommend to anyone wanting a clearer picture of the times, whether regarding slavery, wealth, architecture, societal mores, political standards, or rebellion. It's a short drive from New Orleans and is priced reasonably. Free and easy parking, a nice gift shop, restrooms, and a cafe are on the premises. Many thanks, again, to Jim.

We went to NOLA for a day trip! - We had a GREAT time on the Destrehan plantation tour. Jim was our tour guide and he was the best tour guide we have had on any tour we have been on. He knows all the facts and more! We learned more on this tour thanks to Jim than we ever have! This was the highlight of our NOLA trip!

Be taken back in time - Our very informed and informative guide, Beverly, brought the plantation to life with history and anecdotes to “paint the picture” of all that have lived and worked on the property over the centuries.
