Great land and water combo tour - Large, comfortable passenger van arrived at our hotel right on time to take us on our tour. The Destrehen Plantation was excellent. It ‘s not one of the more popular plantations so it wasn’t crowded. There’s a great deal of history here and the Destrehen family were definitely shakers and movers in the area. Our guide at the plantation, Jordan, was fantastic. She was a wealth of information on the plantation itself and how it fit into the history of the area. On to the swamp boat. It’s a covered boat so when we did encounter some light rain, only folks by the open windows got a bit of it. Saw a few alligators, a raccoon and some birds. Our guide/pilot, Captain Ernie was great. Gave a ton of information on the area, its inhabitants and the local wildlife. Highly recommend this tour.

Sign right up, you won’t be sorry. - Both parts of the tour were fantastic! The plantation tour guide was very articulate and extremely well informed about the multi-generational early history of the home, as well as its more recent history. Our swamp boat tour guide provided everything one could ask for: safety, information about the ecosystem there, EXTREMELY funny, and man o man did we see alligators!

Worth the price - Jim our tour guide at Destrehan was amazing and very informative. The plantation itself was beautiful just wish we weren’t on such a time restriction as we didn’t get to wander much after the tour was done. The swamp tour was great temperatures really dropped that day but we were still able to get a glimpse of several alligators as well. Our guide Ernie was funny and informative it was an overall great experience.

Covered Boat Swamp Ride and Oak Alley Plantation Tour - Due to cancellation, we ended up on a Covered Boat Swamp Ride and Oak Alley Plantation Tour. We were picked up from our hotel as promised at the correct time; and off we went to the Oak Alley Plantation. Having looked around the slave quarters, needless to say, the mood was a little sombre bearing in mind what the plantation was about. We saw all around the building, plus the avenue of oak trees which gave the plantation it's name; and it was all very interesting and worth the trip. We then went on to the swamp. We met 'Captain Jason' who was the pilot of the boat. We travelled through the swamp area, and came across alligators; who I must admit were attracted to the boat by marshmallows, but were a great photo opportunity. We also saw herons and other birds. The guide was informative regarding the flooding of the swamp after Katrina and alligators. Overall, an interesting experience.

Overall a good package! - We did the Destrehan plantation and swamp tour package (6 hours long) The plantation tour was interesting and worthwhile although the tour guide had minimal knowledge. She had a script memorized and just went through her script. Did not know much beyond that when asked a question. The swamp tour was great! We had a great guide named Ernie and he made the experience very enjoyable. I guess the tour guide you get is the luck of the draw... overall a very good combination of sights (without spending all day touring!)
