Beautiful mansion, grounds & incredible lunch! - This is a beautiful place with extensive gorgeous grounds - incredible lunch in beautiful setting - and guided mansion tour with Ruby that was fun, educational and amazing! Ruby did a great job talking about the history, the features of the house and some really surprising facts and stories! All the while making us laugh and keeping us in suspense with the stories - don't miss this! Lunch was exquisite and don't miss the grounds including the pet cemetery, the dragon statue in the Asian garden and the 600 year old trees!

Stepping Back To The Plantation Era - We drove through the Louisiana back country to visit the Houmas House & Gardens. It is a magnificent restored Antebellum mansion reflecting the opulence and wealth of a sugar cane plantation of the 1800's. It was an impressively beautiful house, gushing with history. Our tour guide, John, was a marvelous host. He was extremely informative and he fully answered all our questions. Awesome was an apt description for the extensive gardens and grounds. We spent two hours at this old sugar plantation nestled next to the Mississippi River. We left wishing that we'd had more time to spend there.

Meet the spirits - This property was the largest working plantation in the US during it heyday. It is a beautiful home & historical piece of land that represents many years ,still portraying epitome of Louisiana rich culture. If you make it to the second story wraparound balcony, ask the guide to take a picture of your group and see if an extra object decides to appear.

Must See - If you plan ahead you should enjoy a lunch in their very nice cafe. The gardens are wonderful and the mansion grandiose. The last time I visited was 1987 and much has changed and particularly with the gardens. The tour guide did a nice job explaining things. The tour was not too long or too short.

Great tour full of history and exceptional ambience. - This was our favorite tour while in New Orleans. We are grateful to the owner who lets the public into his residence so that we can enjoy the history and beauty of the grounds. We were fortunate to be on an early tour that was composed of 6 people including Ruby! As a result we were able to capture some excellent photos and take our time reviewing the furniture, art, and listen to Ruby more carefully. Ruby is an excellent, knowledgeable, and fun docent.
