This explains the Lycians’ worship of the fire god Hephaestos (Vulcan). According to legend, the Chimaera was slain by Bellerophon on his winged horse Pegasus. The fires are caused by methane gas seeping from the earth. Dinner and overnight stay in Olympos at Tree Houses & Bungalows.

The Termessians (Pisidian people) fiercely guarded their independence in their impregnable fortress city. Alexander the Great was repelled in 333 B.C., and the Romans accepted Termessos as an independent ally, not a subject city, in 70 B.C. Duden Waterfall is located in DSI state park and has been a settlement area since the 5th century BC. Ancient graves near the waterfall date back to the 3rd century BC. The river’s discharge is 25 million m3 per year, and it is 25 meters deep. Dinner and overnight stay in Antalya.

The walls are adorned with beautiful frescoes, influenced by the Iconoclast period in the 8th and 9th centuries. The underground cities in Cappadocia are also unique. Their origins are uncertain, possibly dating back to Hittite times or as late as the 16th century. Another must-visit area is the famous Ihlara Valley, a deep, narrow river gorge carved by the Melendiz River. Dinner and overnight stay in Cappadocia.
