Highlights
  • YehLiu Geopark - Located in Wanli District, New Taipei City, as one of the premier attractions in the northern coast of Taiwan, Yehliu Geopark is home to a number of unique rock formations caused by wind and sea, such as the mushroom rocks, the chessboard rock, the trace fossils and all that.

The most famous rock formation is the iconic “Queen’s Head”, a mushroom rock that resembles the profile of England’s Queen Elizabeth. Every year, the “Yehliu Night Tour” features light shows, water projection, etc, attracting over ten thousands visitors flock to see the Queen’s Head illumined at night.

Besides the Queen’s Head, other remarkable formations such as the Sea Candles, the Fairy Shoe, the Ginger Rocks, the Elephant Rock, the Ice Cream Rock, the Kissing Rock, and the Princess’ Head, are worth taking a look at.

  • Jiufen Old Street - Jiufen is a hillside village in Ruifang District, New Taipei City. The village was flourished in the 1940s due to the gold mining industry, and then fell into disrepair and decrepitude for years. Even though the golden age has long gone, this small village still has a lot of stories to tell.

The awarded movie “A City of Sadness”, directed by the famous film director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, was shot there. Its unique historical background, the melancholic and emotional atmosphere attracted enormous global attention. The success of the movie also brought vitality to Jiufen’s tourism, making it the most popular destination in northeastern Taiwan.

Since you are in Jiufen, it’s recommended to have a cup of tea at a teahouse, where you can appreciate the picturesque scenery, and the freshly brewed tea at the same time. Besides the teahouses, here you can also tastes various local foods and buy souvenirs. If you have a sweet tooth, don’t miss the traditional Jiufen dessert—Taro Ball!

  • Shifen Waterfall - Situated in Pingxi District, New Taipei City, Shifen Waterfall is one of the most popular attractions in this area, widely-known as the “Little Niagara Falls” of Taiwan, a cascade-type waterfall similar to North America’s Niagara Falls.

There are several viewing platforms near Shifen Waterfall, where the visitors can see the waterfall from different angles, even have a close-up look. On sunny days, if you are lucky, you can capture a beautiful rainbow created by the mist of this 20-meter tall waterfall as it splashes into the lake.

  • Shifen Old Street - Shifen Station is located down Keelung River from the waterfall area, originally built for transporting coal during Japanese colonization. The station is right alongside Shifen Old Street, today it stands as a reminder of Taiwan’s history.

The street is lined with souvenir shops, sky lantern shops and eateries. You can also see a lot of people set up their sky lanterns on the railway track, getting ready to release them into the sky. Of course, you will not miss out on the opportunity to experience this special tradition. 3 or 4 people will share one lantern, and each of you can write down your wishes on one side of the lantern. Great day with a great guide - We upgraded to a private tour with pickups at two hotels. We had a great day with our guide Chiara, she was knowledgeable, well prepared and able to switch flawlessly between two different languages throughout the tour. We visited some beautiful locations just an hour or so from from Taipei with opportunities to explore each location our self. Setting up and releasing the sky lantern in Shifen was the the definite highlight for our children. Thanks Edison Tours and Chiara!

1 day with foresights - We loved Tony. Not only was he knowledgeable and insightful, but also funny and able to switch between 3 different languages at a moments notice. Couldn’t recommend him enough as your tour guide! The views were great and each stop gave plenty of time to explore around.

A Great Trip - It's definitely a perk to be picked up at the hotel. Our guide, Chiara, was thoughtful about the weather forecast and borrowed umbrellas from the hotel before we left. She was so knowledgeable and prepared that even though this was a lot to tackle in one day, everything went smoothly, and we really enjoyed her company. It was amazing how much we were able to do in one day. We saw a variety of beautiful geographic settings, we had lunch on a peaceful patio with the ocean and mountains all in view, we did some small shopping, ate some street food and set off a lantern as a grand finale. It was a perfect day.

Jackie was a phenominal... - Jackie was a phenominal tour guide with decades of experience under his belt. He was very charming and let us know the best spots while also giving history lesson tidbits about the places we visited. I would gladly recommend this tour to anyone.

The best way to see four top locations with a fascinating guide in a small group format. - This was a fascinating experience and the small group format made it so much more interesting. Our guide, Jenny, has lived in Taiwan over 10 years and she was sharing interesting facts and stories throughout each stop. She offered to take photos throughout our trip and she knows good photo composition, too. The rock formations at Yehliu were unique and beautiful. In Jiufen, we walked though traditional markets, tasted tea, and enjoyed lunch with a great view. The Shifen waterfall was beautiful. A highlight was also writing wishes or prayers on a balloon lantern that was then lit to rise into the sky. I couldn’t recommend our guide or driver more highly. Thank you for a wonderful experience. They picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel exactly on schedule.

Learned a lot about Taiwan on this tour! - We took the private tour to Jiufen, Geopark and Shifen with Chiara. The van was comfortable and cool. Chiara was an outstanding guide - she was friendly, spoke perfect English, and was extremely knowledgable. On the van, she made sure to talk to all of the family members, and was great at using her iPad to explain things to us about history, geography etc. She was able to answer all of our questions about history, politics, and what it is like to live in Taiwan now. The pace of the tour and the balance of guided vs free time was perfect. It was sweltering hot, so she made sure we could have time to get shaved iced and fruit to cool down. Preparing and releasing our sky later was an unforgettable experience. Thanks for a wonderful tour!

Enjoyable tour with Edison - Car (a VW van), driver and guide Mr Chen all good. We booked a group tour, cancelled it and went for a private one (same destinations). Of course we paid more, but it was private, so it was good. With group, everyone follow the schedule, and cannot leave earlier if already done. The destinations, needless to reiterate, one can read what other TA contributors wrote. Regarding Edison, very responsive. We save their WhatsApp number and contacted them thru WhatsApp if any issue arise and for communication. Overall, we are happy with Edison and will use them again this November for a round Taiwan tour. Save yourself time and hassle, spend some money and go with Edison. We are glad we did that.

An fun packed day with lots of walking involved - It was a good trip and Jenny, the tour guide, was helpful and entertaining. She offered to take my photos, which I'm grateful for since I was travelling solo. She also offered me some tissue when she noticed that I was sweating. There was a lot of walking involved so if you don't mind walking in the humid weather, it would be a good experience. Free time is limited so it would be best to carefully plan how you want to use your time. At Jiufen, we were offered to either eat at the restaurant they recommended or find something to eat in the streets. I chose to eat at the restaurant but considering the limited time we had, I should have chosen to eat on the streets instead so that I have more time to explore and buy souvenirs. The food at the recommended restaurant was still delicious, it just may not have been ideal with my limited free time. The only downfall I would have is that the website gave me the wrong meeting point. It was only when I tried to get in touch with the tour guide that I noticed the meeting point was somewhere else.
