Plaza de Armas - Your journey begins with a pickup and a picturesque early morning train ride from Cusco or Ollantaytambo to the 104 km mark.
Km 104 Station - This is where the short Inca Trail begins. As the train moves through the valley, it turns into a dramatic canyon and enters a cloud forest, showcasing a shift in scenery. After about an hour and ten minutes, the train stops, and you’ll complete the necessary check-in at the main checkpoint to start your hike.
Chachabamba - With your expert guide, the first stop is Chachabamba, an ancient archaeological site, where you’ll learn about its historical importance. The trail then ascends, offering breathtaking views.
Winay Wayna - Upon reaching Wiñayhuayna, your guide will provide insights into this Inca site and the surrounding rich biodiversity. After this exploration, enjoy a well-deserved box lunch at the Wiñayhuayna checkpoint before continuing your two-hour trek towards Machu Picchu.
Inti Punku Sun Gate - You will arrive at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate, offering a stunning view, especially as the sun sets, giving you your first glimpse of the magnificent citadel. As most day visitors leave, you’ll experience Machu Picchu in a more peaceful setting, ideal for photos and exploration.
Aguas Calientes - The day concludes with a bus ride to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll check into your hotel. The evening is yours to enjoy dining at one of Aguas Calientes’ excellent restaurants and to rest for another exciting day ahead.
The Most Important Day – Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu - Prepare for an exciting day as you head to the breathtaking Machu Picchu! To avoid the crowds and enjoy the tranquil morning atmosphere, you’ll start from the hotel early. Machu Picchu is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you’ll take a bus to this hidden Royal Citadel of the Incas.
A 2-hour guided tour will reveal the marvels of Machu Picchu, including its grand temples, terraces, palaces, priest residences, the sundial, and areas for industry and agriculture. The incredible craftsmanship of the Incas, who constructed this sustainable and beautiful community without modern tools, steel, or iron, will amaze you. After the tour, you’ll have plenty of time for personal exploration. Take the chance to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (booking tickets in advance is crucial!), or visit the Incan Bridge. You’ll have over five hours to soak in the mystique of this ancient city.
Aguas Calientes - After your exploration, a bus will return you to Aguas Calientes. Here, you can choose to have lunch at a local restaurant (not included in the tour).
Ollantaytambo - After lunch, you’ll catch a train to Ollantaytambo at either 2:55 p.m., 3:20 p.m., or 4:22 p.m.
Plaza de Armas - Upon arrival, Peru Hikers’ private car will be ready to take you back to your hotel. Get ready for a day full of adventure and unforgettable memories!
