100% Must Do trip whilst in Cusco - This was one of my highlights of my whole South America trip. From the beginning to end it was just amazing! Firstly the great communication before the activity the day before was 10/10, the pickup time was 10/10 so already there it was a great start. Our tour guide Edgar, what can i say, if you have him as your tour guide your are soooo lucky, he really goes out of his way to make sure everyone in the group are both enjoying the trip, and also the safety for the group. The transport van was great back and fourth (roads a bit bumpy in some areas but just that more «lively expirience). The Atv driving up and down to Rainbow mountain was just sooooooo much fun, and the views along the way, WOW🙌🏻 Again Edgar always made sure everyone was comfortable and sticking to the rules. When we got to the entrance of Rainbow Mountain you had the choice to rent a motorbike the last 5 mins, recommend 100%. Also if you have the chance, walk up to The Red Valley, it’s absolutley stunning! Thanks Edgar for carrying my backpack and being patient and positive to get me up that hill🤣💪🏼 This trip is a must do whilst in Cusco, it’s so much fun and can recommend it 100%. Thanks again for great memories. Sarah (Norway) This was one of my highlights of my whole South America trip. From the beginning to end it was just amazing! Feel the height! - Awesome experience! New sensations, feel the height, beautiful panorama of the mountains. Prepare for the altitude sickness in advance. Buy altitude sickness relief pills in Pharma if you’re 30+ and take them day before and during that day. Prepare for the cold weather, but not winter clothes, light puffer will do. On the top during a sunny day is actually hot. Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat with visor-essential. You don’t need warm hat. For driving you will have a helmet, gloves is good to buy.

Amazing Experience - I did this tour along with 6 friends and it was a great experience overall. The food was really good. The guide was extremely friendly and he really helped us throughout the last mile hike. The ATV tour was an exhilarating experience with amazing views. Everything was well organised and on time.

Book it!!! - I read a review that said “don’t overthink it-just book it” and I whole heartedly agree!!!!! We almost didn’t dare to go but I’m so glad we did. It is my favorite experience of our vacation! Hernesto picked us up right on time and drove us to breakfast (about an hour and a half) There was a lot of fruit and a variety of other things. Then we continued on to the base where they keep the four wheelers. Edgar got us on and headed up the mountain quickly (after a little test of driving ability). I rode up with my husband because I wasn’t sure how I would do with the high altitude. Turns out I had adjusted in Cusco enough so I wasn’t affected by it at all! The ride up was easy, fun and beautiful!! Everywhere you look was absolutely gorgeous (for this reason I was glad I was on the back and didn’t have to concentrate on driving!!!!) Once we got up closer to the top we all hopped on the back of a local dirt bikes and they drove us up to almost the top(it’s private land so you can’t drive the four wheelers all the way up to the top). It was a thrilling ride up (fast!) and even a little scary coming down! Walking up the rest of the way made me happy I hadn’t tried to skip the motorbikes. Not much oxygen up there. We took it slow and easy and made it up without issue. The beauty up there is amazing! Rainbow Mountain didn’t disappoint but no matter which direction you looked it was breathtakingly beautiful!!!!! Edgar told us about what we were seeing and took photos for us -then we headed back down. He helped us find our motorbike driver (you are supposed to use the same one both directions. You get a ticket with their name/number) Then we mounted our four wheelers and headed back down. Edgar was great about stopping to get awesome photos. We boarded the van and rode back to the same restaurant for lunch (everyone found something they enjoyed) and then they drove us back to our drop off (takes a little longer on the way home due to traffic) Van is comfortable and the experience is well worth a few hours on the road!!! I highly recommend this excursion to everyone!!! We had such a great day!!!!!!

Highly recommend - I did a solo trip and the guides were super helpful through the whole process. José even helped me get a healing oil in Cusco while he was working as well. Jose also took pictures for me and made sure the whole group was safe in the high altitude and the snow/rain conditions

Tour guide was helpful... - Tour guide was helpful and reminded us to get gloves to keep our hands warm during the ATV ride. Views were great. The bus ride was terrible though - bumpy roads (understandable but still the ride shouldn’t be this bad) and the driver kept stopping the van abruptly that our bags would just fall onto the ground from the seat. Couldn’t really take a rest and felt quite sick during the long journey on the van.

Great experience, recommend doing it on your own time. - We opted for this tour vs walking because my partner is not as physically fit and was concerned about the altitude. The best parts of this tour was seeing Rainbow Mountain itself and riding thenATVs most of the way up. On our day the entire mountain was covered in fog so we actually never got to see the classic view that’s in all the pictures for ourselves, but we’re not mad about that, can’t help the weather. Just being at the top 16,000 feet up was incredible. The ride up on ATV was just as beautiful, stunning, and worthwhile. If we had not taken the ATVs we’d have had opportunity to stop and take pictures of the scenery we could see along the way, but when you take the ATV that’s not possible. The only issue we had with our tour was the pace of the tour, our pick up at our hotel was at 4:30am. At 6:30am we stopped at a buffet all tours stop at for a very quick breakfast. I mean, you literally had just enough time to grab food and go. I didn’t have time to use the bathroom so the next 2 hour drive to the mountain was a little uncomfortable for me until we got to the mountain and could use the restroom there. But in doing that I got the impression we were taking time from getting to the ATVs. We each got our own ATV. We spent a few minutes driving in a circle in the ATV lot before heading up. We got to the parking spot for the ATVs by 9:22, our guide told us we had 50 minutes, by 10:20 we had to be back on thenATVs, so by 10:10 we had to be walking back down. The walk up was easy at first but I hit a point my heart raced and was out of breath and had to stop and try to take deep breaths to recover. The top of the mountain was windy, cold, cloudy, and beautiful. We took pictures with some Llamas hanging out up there. We waited the full 50 minutes to see if the clouds would move but they never did. By 10 we headed back down to the ATVs and took pictures along the way of views we could see before driving the ATVs back down. After returning to the bus my partner and I swear we heard him say at some point we were going to stop at a Llama farm, but that never happened. On the return journey it was my partner who needed the bathroom but didn’t get a chance to. It felt like it took longer to get back to the dinner area for lunch. I think we got there by 1:30 or 2. Everyone was extremely hungry from the light breakfast and activity, but again only 30 mins to grab food, eat, and use the restroom. Not much time at all but it does take 4 hours there and back. We never stopped at a Llama farm because he said we took too long, but our tour guide did stop at a bread shop on the way back to Cusco and bought himself bread, which I thought was weird. We arrived back in Cusco around 3:30pm. Everyone was dropped off in the same location, at Plaza de Armas. I am not sure if it was supposed to be direct at the hotels like pick up was, but it was there. Exhausting day, we didn’t see the mountain, but still very nice.
