Each one has a different color—turquoise, green, deep blue—surrounded by snow-capped peaks, glaciers, rivers, and incredible high-Andean landscapes. It’s the kind of place that makes you stop in awe every few minutes just to take it all in. We were guided throughout the day by Gilton, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. He was knowledgeable, kind, patient, and clearly passionate about the region. He shared with us local legends, history, insights about the Andean communities, wildlife, plants, and how the lakes change with the seasons. He was always making sure we felt good, safe, and were enjoying the journey. At the end of the hike, we were served a delicious lunch, freshly made with local ingredients—perfect to refuel after the trek. Breathtaking views! Could sit up there for hours. - I loved the views! Juan and our muler did a great job of picking horses for each of us. I am actually very uncomfortable on a horse and the horse they gave me named Dragon was a sweetie with just a bit of it's own personality shining through! Going up and back on the horses they did a great job being attentive to our party and going at a pace that was welcome. They were on time for the very early morning pickup with great attitudes! The night before we did meet with them to go over expectations and they were accommodating. Once we reached the 7 lagoons you cannot even put words to how pretty the lakes were. They shifted in colors as the sun moved through the clouds. I could have sat up there for hours looking at the shifting vibrant colors. The walk around the lakes was easy and there was a little Andean child up there who asked for a piece of candy. Upon entering the lakes we went through the respect ritual of giving an offering to Pachamama for safe passage and wishes. I loved Juan shared his culture with us. The food for lunch and breakfast was good and filling. This was an excellent way to near the end of our trip. By now we were well acclimated and had seen many ruins, so this was a nice change of pace. Juan was so amazing and I loved the patient muler!

Exceeded all of our expectations! - We had a great experience on the horseback riding to the 7 lakes of Ausungate tour. Franklin was a very pleasant tour guide: he communicated well, was punctual and made sure everything was to our liking throughout the tour. The driver was very capable and made us feel safe. The local community welcomed us warmly with tasty breakfast and lunch, and by accompanying us on the horse riding. This was well suited for both my wife (an experienced rider) and myself (first time on a horse). The landscape was absolutely stunning and a must see! Also, due to the early start, there were hardly any other tourists around. Due to the altitude (~4600m), hiking to the lakes was too challenging for us, but the horse riding was a great solution that allowed to soak in the beautiful scenery. We did not use the optional use of the hot springs after the horse riding, but that is a nice addition too. All in all, it was a day that we look back on with a big smile on our faces! 100% recommended for an unforgettable experience!

Thanks! - Very cool hike/ride. It was a welcome relief to ride the horses after hiking around for days. Plus, it made the 15k elevation completly doable for me. It was such a beautiful contrast to the jungles of the Machu Piccu region. Complexy beautiful terrain, and an awe inspiring mountain. The experiance became spiritual at the base of Ausengate, I did not expect that, and it was beautiful. Thanks to Percy for teaching us about the offerrings to the mountain, and thanks for the wonderful stories! He was an excellent tour guide, and kept us well informed and communticated with throughout. Food was great, people were friendly, and the drive was long but easy. Thanks Peru Hikes!

It’s an adventure! - Horseback riding tour? No Horseback riding adventure? Yes! The two lovely guard dogs protected us from the harassment of three wide dogs. They made the adventure incredibly safe. After the challenging horseback riding experience, we were able to remove most of our fatigue by enjoying the hot springs which the locals love. This is a one of a kind horseback riding experience. Highly recommended.

An incredible experience - highly recommend - I had the fortune of being the one traveler to book this excursion and spent the day with Richard on a tour of the 7 lakes. He is extremely knowledgeable and an excellent host. The tour started early morning with a beautiful drive from Cusco and a sunrise over the mountains. We arrived, had a delicious homemade breakfast (omelette, papaya, coffee, tea, and more) The horseback ride to the lakes was unforgettable. Santiago from the community guided my horse while Richard provided an excellent history of the location and traditions in the mountains. I am so grateful to have spent the day with him, and we took some rad photos along the way. We had a gorgeous ride back followed by a dip in the hot spring which was the perfect follow up to a cold but lovely journey. Just as we finished up in the hot tub, another delicious meal of hot Quinoa soup was ready to go followed by chicken, rice, and delicious sauce. I can’t recommend this excursion enough. Thank you Richard and co. I will not forget what an amazing experience I had!!

Beautiful day - Great scenery, beautiful location, and I loved riding the horses! I wish I had known that the horseback guides and our guide were separate- it made leaving tips difficult. A really great day overall, topping it off with a soak in a nice hot spring was perfect. Would definitely recommend!!
