Highlights

CUSCO - KM. 104 - AGUAS CALIENTES

Inca Trail - You will be taken from your hotel in Cusco to km 104 to start the trek. Our trek will take us along the most impressive stretch of the Inca Trail. We’ll visit beautiful Inca sites, see flora and fauna and take in the fantastic panoramas of the Andes mountains. Covering 6.21 miles (10km) of the trail, our journey begins in the Sacred Valley and works it’s way up along an original Inca Trail to the Inca site of Winay Wayna before continuing on to Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). As we make our way to Machu Picchu, we’ll pass through the lush cloud forest that covers the mountain and see a variety of plants, flowers and birds along the way. We may also see some larger mammals such as viscachas (rabbit-like Chinchillas) and spectacled bears (if we are very lucky). After a full day trekking, we’ll arrive to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) in the late afternoon and get our first views of Machu Picchu spread out in the mountain below. The light at this time of day is great for photos and, with fewer tourists in the site, it’s a perfect time to take some pictures. After pass through the Sun Gate, we’ll continue an take a side trail that leads us to Aguas Calientes in the valley below. Here, we’ll check into our hotel.

Awesome short inca trek - The trek was absolutely fabulous. It was a great day...mist in the mountains, little bit of dirzzle, cool air, it was perfect. Breathtaking views and each step and corner a memorable picture worthy scene. The trip by Inkayni Tour operators was extremely well organised and went off like clock-work. Highly recommend the trip.

Amazing!! Would book again in a heartbeat! - We had an amazing tour, thanks largely to our amazing guide Ali Huaman! Everything was incredibly organised and well communicated in advance. We had a briefing with our guide at our hotel in Cusco before leaving to make sure we had all the info we needed and could ask any final questions before leaving. Ali took good care of us during the hike itself, giving lots of information about the Inca sites (including Machu Picchu itself) and about the amazing nature around us. And he took amazing pictures for us!! We opted to hike Huayna Picchu on the second day which was tough on tired legs but beautiful and so, so worth it! The hotel and meals in Aguas Calientes were also great - I can't remember the last time I slept so well! The fact that Ali is Quechua added so nuch value since he could insert his own perspective and teach us some Quechua words along the way! Overall, it was a truly incredible experience and if I would book again with this company, and especially with Ali Huaman, for any future tours in Peru! I highly, highly recommend them!!

Unforgettable experience - What an experience! Our guide Ali Huaman, native Quechua, added value to our trip providing us with a lot of information on history, traditions and nature. From the briefing the day before, to the train tickets, entrance to Machu Picchu and the hotel we stayed. Very organized and on top of things in the case of something unexpected happening. Our enjoyment and experience was the guide's and the agency's priority. Couldn't have asked for a better guide and a better travel agency. Very grateful for this unique experience.

Once-in-a-lifetime Experience - Working with Inkayni on our tour was a breeze. They were communicative and attentive to our needs from the time I was inquiring to the end of the tour. Everyone we had the chance to deal with Inkayni was very nice and caring. The whole tour was very organized and well-planned. Inkayni let us leave our luggages with them while we were on the tour. Herlin, our guide, was such a nice and wonderful gentleman who made sure me and my partner do not turn around and not finish the trail. He went as far as carrying my partner’s heavy backpack. He motivated us to push through. He also was very patient and never rushed us during the hike. Herlin was also very knowledgeable and we learned a lot from him. Bonus is he takes really good pictures and videos. 101% recommend Inkayni to everyone going to Peru and doing the Machu Picchu tour.

Great way to experience the Inka trail for those with less days available - We had a great experience! Everything was organised for us from start to finish. Our guide Herlin was knowledgeable and happy to answer our questions, and had a very positive attitude which kept us going during the trek💪🏻. Following the Inka trail allowed us to visit another site of Inka ruins and gave us great views to Machu Picchu. Would recommend it :-)

Unparalleled adventure - The 2-day Inca Trail seemed ideal to me to appreciate the wonderful landscapes that are not appreciated as much by train. Herlin, our guide, taught us a lot about the Inca culture, it is clear that he has passion for what he does and that he is very well prepared, we could not have had a better guide or agency for this trip, everything was phenomenal. I would recommend this tour with Inkayni 100% and on a next occasion I would like to do a longer tour with them.

Great time with Waman on the short Inca trail - Great tour, saw a lot in two days but it never felt rushed. My guide Percy was amazing, he was personal, fun, friendly and had a lot of information and energy to give. Perfect way to see Machu Picchu and a bit more of the surrounding area.

2 Day Inca trail hike - What a once in a life time experience made even better by Inkayni Peru Tours. The company was incredible. They were easy to communicate with and were available at all times to answer my questions prior to the trip. The company booked all our car travel, train tickets, bus ride to-and-fro Machu Picchu, tickets to see Machu Picchu and hotel stay which made our trip planning hassle free since they did it all for us. They also provided us with an amazing tour guy, Ali Huaman, who was knowledgeable, friendly, had a great sense of humor and bent over backwards to help us. Ali is fluent in Quechua (Incan language), English and Spanish which made the tour and communicating that much cooler and easier. Pick this company to help you!

Decent agency, superstar guide - Inkayni was an overall decent tour agency. If you don't have any special requests that veer from what their standard offerings are, you will be fine. Our guide Paul was truly a superstar and actually saved Inkayni from one of their mistakes that could have made our hike a lot worse. I had confirmed with the agency 3 times regarding the transportation of our overnight luggage with the train company (so that we didn't have to hike with it) and was told it would be fine. Yet on the day of the hike, the train staff refused to let us do this, saying the agency should have called to let them know beforehand. Paul reacted quickly and managed to find someone to take our luggage to Aguas Calientes within the first 15 minutes of our hike. Paul's English is fluent and he not only has deep knowledge about Inka history, but also about the plants and animals along the trail. He's also clearly passionate about these topics and a curious person, which means he's constantly learning more information and keeping abreast of the latest discoveries that could shed more light on the mysteries of the Inkas. My husband and I appreciated that he didn't just recite whatever was in the official records and books. He also has great tips for Aguas Calientes (actually, there's only one really good one - Indio Feliz) and Cusco restaurants. He's also a pretty great photographer. Some improvements for Inkayni would involve syncing up better with guides on the ground to give more accurate information regarding small aspects of the tour and considering either removing the dinner option altogether or disclosing beforehand that clients will be restricted to a smaller portioned and lackluster menu than what is available at their partner restaurant's normal menu.
