Highlights
  • Curtea de Arges Monastery - Did you know that Arges city was the first capital of Romania? It’s often said that truly remarkable, beautiful, and lasting things come only through sacrifice, a sentiment you’ll understand when you visit the historic town of Curtea de Arges.

With a rich and eventful history, this is where you can explore the ruins of the Wallachian princely court, the 13th-century Royal Church, and the renowned Arges Monastery, a significant historical monument with a fascinating yet sorrowful story that your private guide will share with you!

  • Transfagarasan Highway - Did you know that one of the most spectacular roads in the world is the Transfagarasan Highway?

The breathtaking views and stunning scenery offered by this paved mountain road are beyond words; even the Top Gear segment that called it the most beautiful road in the world doesn’t fully capture its magnificence.

We’ll stop here with the information, but don’t forget your camera—you’ll definitely need it! ☺

  • Vidraru Dam - Vidraru Dam is a dam in Romania, completed in 1966 on the Argeș River, creating Lake Vidraru. The arch dam was primarily built to generate hydroelectric power. The dam stands 166 meters tall, with an arch length of 305 meters, and can store 465 million cubic meters of water. The reservoir has a total shoreline length of 28 km.
  • Poienari Castle - If we were to create a tour of Romanian castles for Dracula enthusiasts and adventure seekers, Poenari Castle would be a must-visit, as it is a significant Romanian tourist attraction. This private trip offers the perfect opportunity to discover Transylvania’s wildlife. Currently, the fortress is under restoration, so we will not be visiting it, but we will take some photos!
  • Le Lac Balea - Bâlea Lake (Romanian: Lacul Bâlea or Bâlea Lac, pronounced [ˈbɨle̯a]; Hungarian: Bilea-tó) is a glacier lake located at an altitude of 2,034 m (6,673 ft) in the Făgăraș Mountains, central Romania, near Cârțișoara, Sibiu County. There are two chalets open year-round, a meteorological station, and a mountain rescue (Salvamont) station. The lake is accessible by car via the Transfăgărășan road during the summer, and by cable car from the “Bâlea Cascadă” chalet for the rest of the year.

Cruising for Bears down the Transfagarasan Road - This is a highly recommend journey down the winding Transfagarasan Road. The scenery is spectacular as you go up in the mountains and back down the opposite side of the Carpathians. One of the great roads of the world. We saw in total ten brown bears, a couple were mothers with their cubs. Very cool. Nickolas was very informative on the history of Romania and we got along well. He is very personable and told some good stories. Good driver too.
