Gammeltorv - We will stroll further to Stelling House. The iconic building by Arne Jacobsen was built for the paint dealer A. Stelling.
It is situated at Gammeltorv (old square) that dates back to the 1200s and was the most important square in Copenhagen for centuries. Here you will also see the oldest fountain in the city - The Caritas well. - Church of Our Lady - Copenhagen Cathedral - We will continue to Copenhagen Cathedral - Church of Our Lady. It was built by the renowned Danish architect C. F. Hansen in 1829 in a neoclassical style, inspired by ancient Greek and Roman temples. We will visit the church and see the notorious statue of Christ.
- Nyropsgade - The next stop is the office building - A. Jespersen & Son. It was designed by Arne Jacobsen and completed in 1955. This is an elegant building where all the details of the facade, and the proportions of the separate parts were very carefully considered. Upon completion of the office building, Jacobsen replicated the construction methodology in the SAS Royal Hotel, which you will see next.
- Copenhagen City Hall - Another highlight we see on this tour is Copenhagen City Hall. It is considered to be a masterpiece of Danish and Nordic architecture. Inspired by Danish medieval architecture and built according to Danish craftsmanship traditions with the highest quality materials.
-
Tivoli Gardens - On the way to our last stop, we will pass Tivoli Gardens.
Tivoli has it all, attracting tourists and locals, who enjoy a fairy tale universe. Danish writer H.C. Andersen visited the garden many times, as did Walt Disney. It is even said that Walt Disney found inspiration in Tivoli for his first Disney World. - Hammerichsgade - The tour will end at the Radisson Collection Royal Hotel (former SAS Royal Hotel). You will hear about a great example of Arne Jacobsen’s concept of “total design”, where furniture, textiles, and fixtures were designed to complement his architecture.
