Eat. Learn. Have fun. - It’s an amazing food tour. Lots of different choices and Vicente was very knowledgeable. He answered all of our crazy questions about life in Rio de Janeiro. Definitely a must if visiting.

“Flavors of Rio: A Culinary and Cultural Journey with Local Charm” - Joining Rio Alternative Tours’ Food Tour Experience was a mouthwatering, eye-opening journey through Rio de Janeiro’s flavors and history. Led by the dynamic duo Vicente and Lullie, every stop became an opportunity to taste the city’s essence and hear its stories. We kicked off at Rio’s largest farmers market, which was a feast for all senses. Surrounded by vibrant produce, we sampled juicy tropical fruits and light tapioca crepes, gluten-free treats that were both tasty and unique. The market was bustling, colorful, and felt like a true celebration of local abundance—though we started to regret that “just a little breakfast” we had beforehand! Then we headed to Santa Teresa, where a historic bar awaited with its rich history and iconic caipirinhas. Here, under the cozy ambiance, we learned about Rio’s past, sipped on perfectly crafted caipirinhas, and were reminded yet again of the rookie mistake we made by filling up on breakfast. The Docklands offered a different kind of experience, showcasing Rio’s transformation as old, neglected spaces are turning into vibrant cultural areas. Vicente and Lullie gave us an inside look at the city’s growth, making this stop as thought-provoking as it was scenic. Finally, we ended in Urca, a picturesque neighborhood with stunning views and delicious shrimp pastéis—crispy pastries filled with savory shrimp. By this point, we’d officially thrown in the towel on our earlier breakfast, wondering why we thought that would be a good idea before a food tour. Throughout, Vicente and Lullie kept us entertained and informed with stories of Brazil’s culinary and cultural history. Their warmth, humor, and insights made this tour unforgettable. For anyone who loves food, culture, and a bit of adventure (just don’t eat a big breakfast!), this tour is an absolute must!

Do this food tour!! - We do a lot of food tours around the world and this was one of the best ones! Excellent, personable guide. Good pace and information and of course FOOD. We were worried it wouldn’t have new food or locations because we’d been in Rio a few days doing other tours and eating a lot but it blew us away. Highly recommend!

Great tour! - Our tour guide was awesome! He really gave my friends and I a cultural experience. He was able to give us the history behind many of Brazil hottest tour spots! The food was great and I would 100% recommend this tour!

GREAT TIME WITH GOOD EATS - Great food and even a better time; Vincente and Lulu are incredibly friendly and accommodating. Learned a lot and saw some cool sites in between stops, but the food was the main attraction. Vicente did my ordering but always asked if that was something I liked or if I wanted something else. I trusted his calls and was not disappointed. One of those experiences where you drop the client/customer aspect and just become friends hanging out. Take this tour.

FANTASTIC - This is what you call a REAL tour. It was educational, fun, thorough. And yes, delicious! Vicente and Lully are the best. We had an absolutely amazing time. Do not miss this tour!

Food and so much More!!! - Fantastic tour with two wonderful Guide/Driver - Vincent and Luli- who speak English, Spanish and Portuguese. We started with a farmer’s market where we saw and tried artisanal products including cheese, coconut treats and a delicious tapioca pizza. Next, we went to a fish market and had crab stew, cheese stuffed shrimp and local draft beer. Caipirinhas at a 100+ year old tavern with bolinho was a high point. We walked the streets of the Santa Teresa neighborhood and had the famous pao de queijo. We stopped for photos at various overlooks and saw Christ the Redeemer from various angles. A traditional Amazonia dish, açaí was next. Vincent heard we liked street art and took us to see the Kobra mural in the port area. Our final stop, we ate, drank and laughed perched on a wall with the locals looking out at the bay. Vincent also showed us the Selaron Steps. He worked with the artist and provided 100+ tiles for the project. My 18 year old and I were exhausted and full from our wonderful immersion into Rio’s local foods and neighborhoods. We recommend this tour and these guides. Covid protocols were followed Luli constantly sanitized our hands at the food stops, Sanitizer was provided in the car. Masks were worn except when eating.

They did not show up, and charged $215!!! - I sent numerous messages, tried the phone number, but no reply! I waited 35 minutes and no one showed up!!!!!!
