DEVON WATERFALL / TEA REGION OF NUWARA ELIYA

Devon Falls - After a delightful breakfast with a hot cup of Sri Lankan tea or coffee, embark on a scenic journey through the beautiful Sri Lankan countryside to Nuwara Eliya. En route, stop at Devon Waterfall, known as the ‘Veil of the Valley,’ located 6 km (3.7 mi) west of Talawakele on the A7 highway. Named after an English coffee planter, Devon, whose plantation was nearby, the waterfall stands 97 m (318 ft) high, ranking as the 19th highest in the country.

Nuwara Eliya - Next, visit Nuwara Eliya, often called “Little England” due to its British colonial-era buildings like the Queen’s Cottage, the General’s House, the Grand Hotel, the Hill Club, and the Town Post Office. Nestled in the mountains, this charming town enjoys a cool climate year-round.

Horton Plains National Park - Early morning, visit Horton Plains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the eastern edge of the Central Highlands, between Nuwara Eliya and Hatton. This forest reserve rises to 2,500 meters above sea level and is a biodiversity hotspot. Horton Plains hosts a diverse range of flora and fauna, including several endangered species, and is home to Sri Lankan leopards and deer. The park is named after British governor Sir Robert Horton.

Minneriya National Park - In the afternoon, your tour leader will take you to Minneriya/Kaudulla National Park for a 4x4 Jeep safari, the best time to spot wild elephants in their natural habitat. If you’re seeking an exciting jungle adventure, Minneriya/Kaudulla is the perfect destination! Spanning 8800 hectares, this park is primarily an elephant sanctuary. Watching baby elephants play in the water at the park’s central lake is a delightful experience. This location is known as the world’s largest elephant gathering site.
