Constructed on a hill by the influential Aldobrandeschi family, Montemerano offers an atmosphere reminiscent of the Middle Ages. The town is entirely encircled by walls, with access provided through three gates. Within, visitors can explore significant structures such as the Church of San Giorgio (14th century), the main parish church of the village, and the Pieve of San Lorenzo (built in the 12th century), the former parish church and the oldest building in Montemerano.
