- Civita di Bagnoregio - Nestled in the province of Viterbo, Lazio, Civita di Bagnoregio is a charming village often referred to as “the dying city” due to its fragile position atop a tuff hill, which is continuously eroding.
Despite the ongoing threat of erosion, Civita di Bagnoregio captivates visitors from across the globe. This exceptional village provides a unique experience where history, art, and nature converge in a stunning setting.
The village’s remarkable geological features and timeless atmosphere have inspired famous artists and filmmakers worldwide. Notably, the acclaimed Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki drew inspiration from this village for the backdrop of his film “Laputa: Castle in the Sky.”

- Parco dei Mostri - The Park of the Monsters, or Parco dei Mostri, is a 16th-century horror spectacle set within a beautiful Italian garden. Commissioned in 1552 by Prince Pier Francesco Orsini, this park was created as an expression of grief designed to astonish its visitors.
The park is adorned with bizarre and fascinating sculptures. Among the notable pieces are a war elephant, a fish-headed monster, a giant tearing another giant apart, and a house built at an angle to confuse those who enter. Perhaps the most frightening sculpture in the garden is a massive head with its mouth wide open in a scream.
Salvador Dalí was so captivated by the park that he filmed a short movie there, and the sculptures influenced his work, The Temptation of Saint Anthony. Many other artists followed, including the Argentinian writer Manuel Mujica Lainez, whose novel “Bomarzo” is inspired by the park (which was later adapted into an opera).
Discover the park with a local licensed guide on a 2-hour private guided tour.
