- Zona Arqueologica de Muyil - The archaeological site of Muyil serves as the gateway to the Biosphere of Sian Ka’an. Participants will explore the site to spot birds while learning about this historical location, which was once a significant Mayan trading hub.
/! The Muyil site is currently closed for an indefinite period. A $10 refund will be provided due to the inability to enter the site. Rest assured, a diverse range of bird species will still be observed in Muyil and its surroundings.
Birding will instead take place along the road to Muyil’s lagoon and at the lagoon’s edge.

Approximately 20 minutes south of Tulum, there is a chance to experience an amazing variety of birds, delve into the contemporary Maya culture, and explore the ancient Maya civilization while birdwatching in the village and archaeological site of Muyil.
The tour includes exploring various habitats in the village, featuring diverse vegetation: the mature semi-deciduous jungle at the Muyil archaeological site and some freshwater wetlands. Participants will walk through a flooded jungle on a boardwalk until reaching a freshwater lagoon.
During this tour, it is possible to spot between 40 to 80 bird species, depending on the season.
Additionally, there is an option to enhance the tour with a boat trip across two lagoons and a relaxing river float experience. This unique setting allows participants to float among mangroves, orchids, and bromeliads while enjoying the sounds of nature.
