• Sign of the Kiwi Cafe - The Sign of the Kiwi is a remarkable rest house that withstood the 2010-2011 earthquakes, though it required significant restorations to maintain its integrity and charm. This building is a crucial piece of history and serves as a welcoming spot for those exploring the scenic vistas along Summit Road.

A 20-minute drive over a steep hill brings us into Akaroa Harbour and into Barrys Bay.

There is free time here to admire the local artworks, sample the ice cream, or visit the historic railway station.

• Barrys Bay Cheese - An optional stop at this iconic local cheesemonger (open weekdays only).

From Barrys Bay, it takes 15 minutes to drive around the end of the harbour to the township of Akaroa.

• Kaituna Valley Scenic Reserve - Morning tea is served before exploring the beautiful native bush and admiring the massive Matai (New Zealand White Pine) trees. An easy 10-minute loop track is available for those who wish to stretch their legs.
