Chinchero served as a significant administrative and residential hub during the Inca period, established by Túpac Inca Yupanqui. It is renowned for its agricultural terraces, temples, and Inca roads that link to other key sites in the Sacred Valley.
- Moray - A 35-minute drive will take us to the next destination, Moray. Moray is believed to have been an experimental agricultural laboratory. The Incas likely cultivated various types of crops on each platform, studying their growth under different climatic conditions.
- Maras - A 30-minute journey will bring us to the salt works of Maras, also known as the famous “Salt Mines” located in the Maras district. The Salt of Maras originates from an ancient ocean trapped in the mountains millennia ago, which, through a spring emerging from the mountain, flows into the 4,200 pools of the Salineras de Maras. These pools are worked and harvested by the families of the Maras community using a traditional technique that has been practiced for 600 years.
- Urubamba - After a 45-minute journey, we will reach the province of Urubamba, where there will be free time to enjoy a buffet lunch featuring a variety of national and local dishes.
- Ollantaytambo - Following a 45-minute drive, the journey arrives at the village of Ollantaytambo, a delightful village that maintains the designs of Inca architecture, located at an altitude of 2,770 meters in the province of Urubamba. Ollantaytambo was a strategic Inca center in the Sacred Valley, constructed in the 15th century by Pachacútec for military and agricultural purposes, and later expanded. It played a crucial role during the Spanish conquest as a resistance point under Manco Inca’s leadership, even achieving a victory against the Spanish before a subsequent retreat. Today, it is a popular tourist destination and the gateway to Machu Picchu, preserving its Inca urban layout.
- Pisac - After a lengthy journey of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes by transport, the destination will be the beautiful site of Pisac. At the archaeological center of Pisac, there are houses, aqueducts, roads, bridges, towers, barracks, a cemetery, ceremonial centers, and a vast area of agricultural platforms. Pisac is also noted for the numerous towers or viewpoints (around 20) scattered throughout the area.
