This quaint indigenous Andean village is perched high on the windswept plains of Anta at an elevation of 3,765 meters, approximately 30 kilometers from Cusco. The area offers breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, with the Vilcabamba Range and the snow-capped peak of Salkantay gracing the western horizon. Chinchero is traditionally considered the mythical birthplace of the rainbow. Its main attraction for visitors is the vibrant Sunday market, which is less tourist-focused than the Pisac market. The village is primarily composed of adobe houses, and the locals continue to wear traditional attire. Historically, Chinchero may have been a significant settlement during the Inca era. The most remarkable remnant from this time is the massive stone wall in the main square, featuring ten trapezoidal niches.

• Moray - After a 30-minute drive, the group will reach Moray, a testament to the advanced agricultural techniques of the Incas, such as terrace farming and aqueduct irrigation. Moray, located 4.5 miles from Maras and 39 miles from Cusco, showcases circular terraces that highlight the sophisticated culture of the Inca civilization. The terraces, which are up to 330 feet deep, are constructed with retaining walls and linked by an irrigation system. Moray is considered an agricultural laboratory where the Incas created microclimates to cultivate diverse crops.

• Maras - Following another 30-minute journey, the group will arrive at the salt mines, or the renowned “salt pools” of Maras, situated in the rural community of Pichingoto. This location is a photographer’s paradise, offering a stunning landscape in all its splendor. It is also ideal for hikers and mountain bikers, as the trail connects the salt mines with the villages of Tarabamba and Pichingoto. Notable features of this area include the archaeological site of Moray, resembling an amphitheater with circular terraces. Visitors should also explore the Sanctuary of Tiobamba, a colonial adobe church housing Cusco paintings like The Last Supper.

• Urubamba - After approximately 45 minutes of travel, the group will arrive in the city of Urubamba, where they will enjoy a break and lunch. A hearty meal featuring a variety of national and local dishes will be served, accompanied by soothing Andean music.

• Ollantaytambo - After a 1-hour drive, the group will reach the village of Ollantaytambo, a charming place that retains the layout of Inca structures, located at an altitude of 9,160 feet in the Urubamba province. Among its most impressive attractions are the ceremonial temple dedicated to water worship and a fortress that guards the valley entrance against invasions. The temple features a series of terraces that visitors ascend via a steep staircase. The fortress, a stone colossus, was constructed between two mountains to protect the valley. The name Pisac originates from Quechua, meaning partridge, a bird resembling a chicken that inhabits the area. Known as the most significant ceremonial and religious site in Pisac, it boasts buildings made of sedimentary rocks.
