- Cajon del Maipo - Cajón del Maipo is a canyon situated in the southeastern Andean part of the Santiago Metropolitan Region. It includes the upper Maipo River basin, where the river has carved a narrow valley. The area features several tributary rivers such as El Volcán River, Yeso River, and Colorado River, along with smaller streams like San Gabriel, Manzanito, Coyanco, El Sauce, El Manzano, and San José. The main town is San José de Maipo, the capital of the commune that covers the entire Andean sector of the Metropolitan Region.
- Tunel Ferroviario del Tinoco - The abandoned Tunel del Tinoco cuts through the mountains along Camino Al Volcán, a relic from the region’s railway era. Trains operated through the tunnel from 1914 to 1980. Now, it is completely dark, with an unusual smell and a mysterious history.
- Plaza de Armas in San José de Maipo - San José de Maipo is the communal capital, where the primary commercial activities of the area are centered. Its charming architecture preserves the classic style that led to the town’s current existence. Visitors can explore the Main Square and enjoy a well-deserved break. On weekends and holidays, interesting artisanal displays typical of the area are set up, offering visitors the chance to take home a lovely souvenir of their trip.
- Villa La Obra, San Jose De Maipo - Upon entering the G-25 route, the first town encountered is La Obra. This area began in 1802 due to the work carried out during the construction of the San Carlos canal, which originates from the Maipo River.
- Termas Valle de Colina - Termas Colinas, also known as Baños Colina, features 7 natural thermal pools, located in the heart of the Andes mountain range. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to connect with nature in its purest form. A word of caution for those who cannot be without internet for more than 2 minutes: There is no Wi-Fi signal at Termas Colina! However, this should not deter anyone from experiencing this gem, located just two hours from Santiago.
- El Canelo - The next destination is the town of El Canelo, named after the sacred tree of the Mapuches, which is also found in the moist streams of the area. From here, visitors can access Purgatory Hill, standing at 2,466 meters high, and also enjoy local wines and spirits.
- Avenida el Manzano - El Manzano is the fourth town found in the Cajon del Maipo. It offers visitors areas that invite exploration among boldos, thorns, and quillayes, the natural vegetation of the area.
- Las Vertientes - This is the second town to visit, with origins dating back to 1941 from the division of an old farm. Currently, typical products such as almonds, honey, nuts, and quartz crystals greet visitors along the roadside.
- San Gabriel - San Gabriel began as a small village born from livestock activities and the exploitation of quarries and mines. In this town, visitors can observe the “Cypress of the Cordillera” on the rocky slopes of the hills, one of the few existing conifers in the country. A major attraction is “Los rodados de San Gabriel.”
- El Melocotón - This locality emerged from the need for natural pastures to feed animals descending from the mountain range. Here, visitors can enjoy a stunning landscape that invites exploration and a deeper connection with nature.
