The Best Tour Guide in Tulum - If the company keeps Alan Balam as just a tour guide, they’re absolutely nuts. This man should be a supervisor—no, scratch that—he should be managing the entire operation or training every new hire that walks through the door. His knowledge, charisma, and passion are on another level. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and it shows in every story he tells, every fact he shares, and the energy he brings to the entire experience.
Alan doesn’t just guide tours—he creates unforgettable moments. His ability to connect with people, make you feel safe, engaged, and inspired is rare. Honestly, I’ve done tours all over the world, and he is by far the best I’ve ever encountered—hands down, the best in Tulum.
So here’s the deal: if for some insane reason they don’t promote him soon, and you’re lucky enough to be visiting—request Alan by name. Trust me, your trip will be 10x better because of him.

Chichentsa private excursion - Jesus was very educated on the excursion and was a pleasure to be with all day. His English and explanations on the day were excellent and Really enjoyed the private excursion and would highly recommend him when booking.

Alan’s tour was our trip highlight! - My daughter and I (she is in her early 20s) took a trip for Mothers Day week to Cancun and were slightly fearful (as 2 women alone in a foreign country) to book a private tour but this ended up being our favorite part of our vacation.
I paid a 50% deposit via PayPal (with a small fee) on initial booking, and there was excellent communication leading up to the trip with the Mexico Highlights contact person via WhatsApp. I have experienced the long pickup and drop offs with other large group tours in the Riviera Maya and wanted to ensure our day was catered to our specific needs. I was ensured it was a completely private tour (other “private” tours after my initial inquiry asked about my comfort in allowing another 4-6 people to join!).
It was an EARLY but prompt 615am pickup and a long HOT day inland but cooling off in a completely empty cenote pool for almost an hour was the absolute icing on the cake for our day. Alan was a gentleman, respectful of our space, very knowledgable on all things Yucatan/Mayan. We felt very safe the entire trip and would not hesitate in the least to recommend him as a local guide. Water bottles are included, and not having to worry about any other toll/entrance fees was really nice. Only out of pocket cost for me: souvenir shopping, lunch and our tip.

Chitchen Itza and cenote - Hisa was very personable and knowledgable of both the history of the archeological sites and surrounding areas. I would highly recommend the tour and if possible ask for Hisa.

Lucky move! - After we wanted to visit Chichen Itza on our Mexico vacation we went looking for a private tour there and came across Mexico highlights. And what shall we say? It was an absolute stroke of luck!
Our guide Eduardo took us on a journey into the history of the Maya with his humorous and loving manner. We got fantastic insights and background information away from mass tourism. Just as we imagined.
Anyone looking for a relaxed and exciting tour is in the right place. We would definitely book the tour again and can highly recommend Mexico Highlights as well as Eduardo!

Talk about a core memory! - We had an incredible experience on our private tour with Hisel! From the moment we were picked up from our hotel right on time at 6:00 AM, everything was seamless and enjoyable. Hisel was not only kind and professional, but his knowledge of Chichén Itzá was absolutely impressive.
We loved the flexibility of the private tour—it allowed us to explore at our own pace and truly take in the wonder of the site without feeling rushed. Afterward, Hisel brought us to a beautiful hotel where we had an amazing meal, followed by a visit to a stunning cenote that felt like a hidden gem. Again, we had the freedom to stay as long or as little as we wanted, which made the experience feel so relaxed and personal.
We were back at our hotel by 4:00 PM with plenty of time to enjoy the evening in Cancun. This tour was easily the highlight of our trip, and we can’t thank Hisel enough for creating such a memorable day for us!

Couldn’t have asked for a better tour or guide! - Hisa was exceptionally professional, courteous and accommodating. He made us feel very comfortable and by the end of the day, it was like hanging out with an old friend! We were able to personalize the trip to our own timeline, which was great. He was also a wealth of knowledge about things outside what a typical tour would provide. We would absolutely request him on any future tours and hope to be back! I HIGHLY recommend taking this private tour, and Hisa!

BEST TOUR GUIDE YOU COULD EVER BOOK WITH - I went to the Mayan pyramids, a cenote, and seen the town with the tour guide Alam he was the best tour guide any tourist could ever be with, he provided us already with water and had a clean comfortable car with AC. He made me and my dad feel safe and comfortable in his homeland and made me feel as if I was one of his own friends if your looking for a tour guide he’s the one to go to every time if I ever come back I know who I want as my tour guide again he will be my go to and whoever isn’t booking him is missing out on a wonderful experience with a bunch of information not only on the Mayan pyramids and every else I went to but Mexico as a whole he made me feel as if I knew all its ins and outs as if I lived there myself. Book with Alam he has curly long hair and you won’t regret it. A truly unforgettable experience
