Neat cruise, great views, terrible value at the bar - A group of us recently took the City Cruises Odyssey from Navy Pier for a dinner and fireworks viewing cruise. This was pre-arranged with an (allegedly) open bar. The positive: the ship was nice and the cruise was very enjoyable. The views were spectacular and we were perfectly situated to see the 9 pm fireworks from Navy Pier. All of that exceeded expectations. The food was meh. Not great but not awful. It was what I expected for something like this so I would say they met expectations. The negatives: while the waiter was a nice guy the service was slow and he made a bunch of mistakes in regard to what each person had ordered. Could have been a lot worse and he was pleasant. Thenopen bar, on the other hand, was a total grift and I feel cheated. Now, I understand they do not want people getting hammered and causing problems. At the same time I tried to order a double gin on the rocks and was told they could not do doubles. Ok. A colleague of mine ordered a scotch on the rocks and was told they had to add water. In addition the service seemed deliberately slow. I mean painfully slow, like order three drinks at once and you may get two throughout the night. If the open bar service charge was $30 I’d understand. But it was significantly more than that. I felt this was a money grab by City Cruises and, as I said, a grift. Ultimately I’d have rated the cruise a one or two star because of the grift but it was a mostly fun evening and all of the employees were very pleasant. My suggestion for anyone would be skip the bar package and pay drink by drink. You’re likely to spend less money for the same number of drinks.

Corporate holiday party - Boarding the Odyssey was very friendly and simple and easy there was maybe only 25% of capacity on the sailing that we went on. The food was average at best and the serving portions were small, which was good I thought. But the music was not really fun or conducive to wanting to go on the dance floor. There was no DJ there was just a soundtrack. The best part was that we were able to go up to the captains area where he drives the ship. They didn’t have any specialty drinks in the bartender did not know how to do anything other than poor glasses of wine and beer. The service was good because everything was premade, but our food was cold. Going up to see the fireworks with breathtaking, beautiful and an experience. That is why I gave it a three and nothing less.

Save your Money...Watch from the Pier - Purchased what I thought were premium tickets via Tripadvisor only to find out when we boarded that premium tickets could only be purchased direct from Cruise line... SUffice it to say, the start was horrible, no window seat, no drinks before departure, and not so great service during the cruise. The only thing went right were the fireworks. This is an overpriced cruise with below average meal selection and dessert for the rates that are charged.... Never again.... Save your money and just watch the fireworks from your room at the Sable or the rooftop restaurant on the Navy Pier. Same view, if not better...

Would Never Do Again - Did the city cruise live with Below Deck. We bought VIP and spent over $600 for two tickets. Our seats were off the side and we could not even see the faces of those on stage. The pictures they provided is had horrible lighting were poor quality. SO DISAPPOINTED ☹️
