Not to be missed if you are visiting Chester. - We were visiting Chester for a few days so purchased tickets for the 1 hour (hop on/hop off) tour. The commentary was very informative and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the top deck of the bus for a great view of this lovely city.

Chester City £5.00/1-Hour Bus Tour - The iconic Chester City Sightseeing Tours are back with the launch of a new £5 ‘Chester in an Hour’ ticket. Stagecoach's distinctive red open-top buses are back on the city streets with the Town Crier officially opening the tours. The launch of the new £5 ticket means passengers can journey through the city’s famous sights and rich history, including the Roman Amphitheatre, Chester Cathedral and the River Dee in an hour, freeing up more time for them to explore. There is flexibility too, with popular ‘Hop On – Hop Off’ tickets available that give visitors the freedom to travel on the bus throughout the day, hopping off at locations along the route that they’d like to explore more before re-joining the tour on a later bus.

A good way to see Chester - An excellent way to see Chester. The audible guide was clear and informative, the route was well thought out. And the service reasonably frequent.

Is suitable to get an initial overview - I boarded at Chester station and had already booked the ticket online in advance. Everything worked out great. The comments come here from the tape and you have to bring some English skills. Overall, it is a pleasant ride through a clear city.

Open Top Bus Tour of Chester - Saw this service now had a Stay On ticket for £5 as an option from the hop on, hop off 24 hour ticket. Honestly, given the size of Chester, get the £5 ticket, start at the bus station with one of the first services of the day, pay on the bus, go all the way around then walk back to places you’ve seen and heard on the commentary. You’ll save so much time and effort. The tour itself is informative with an automated commentary that runs to time as the bus moves. The bus speed is sufficiently slow as to not miss anything. The route is 6 miles long, I tracked it with GPS… You have the option to combine the hop on ticket with a half hour boat..I’m not sure it’s worth the bother or additional cost, same as hopping on and off is a waste of time as Chester is small enough to reach everywhere quickly enough.

Experience not wanting to repeat. - Halfway round the course ,bus broke down. Wait of 30mins whilst the next bus came and transferred to it. Later going to hop back on,bus was 20mins late as per timetable, then had to wait 10mins at terminus for new driver.

I wouldn’t recommend the 24hr ticket - I booked the 24hr ticket on Tripadvisor. The trip and info would have been fine. We booked this particular day because there should have been 2 buses on each stop having a frequency of every 30 minutes. We waited for the first bus for almost an hour, then the driver informed us that one had broken down. We did the full circuit and were reluctant to get off because we didn’t know how long we would have to wait before we could ‘Hop On’ again. We did get off and wander for a while and then saw another bus and ran to the stop. The commentary told us that we could convert 24 hour tickets to include a river boat trip. We asked the driver to do that for us, but she said that she couldn’t but the people at the boat could. At the boat, we were told they couldn’t do that but would give us a £1 discount. Wow! Don’t spend it all at once! We did, see another bus, both buses were now running. We understand that things beyond our control, do go wrong. We did enjoy the trip and would recommend it, I’m not sure that I would recommend the 24hr ticket? We could have done everything we did with the ‘not hop on again ticket. The buses were smart, the one driver was very pleasant, not sure about the other. The commentary is controlled by the driver so that it is relevant to the location and timings of travel, consequently if there’s a delay (traffic lights etc), you may hear things on a second circuit than you hadn’t heard the time before.
