Above and Beyond - I actually missed the group tour because of some miscommunication about when to meet up. The staff were extremely apologetic and really wanted me to see the wall, so Jerry just too me on a private tour to a very steep, very beautiful part of the wall with unbelievable views where we only saw four other people in over two hours on the wall. It was incredible, this organization is wonderful!

Great experience - Excellent time doing the Mutianyu Great Wall tour. The tour provided a ride from the hostel to Mutianyu and back, along with the entrance ticket and lunch of largely vegetarian Chinese food (which was okay albeit a bit bland). We were left to explore Mutianyu largely by ourselves, which was perfect since trekking the wall wasn't easy physically and it allowed for everyone to go at their own speeds. Cactus, our tour guide, provided a nice, concise historical background of the Wall, peppered with bits of humorous asides. She was very helpful with any questions we had both about the Great Wall or other aspects of Beijing. Overall a really wonderful experience.

Travel to Mutianyu - We decided to take this tour because is one of the few companies offering the Mutianyu area (most of the tours take you to Badaling). The guide was punctual and very friendly. The tour includes lunch at a local restaurant, the food was great and the best was that they offered vegetarian options. Great option if you need an easy way to visit this section of the great wall.

Excellent day trip!!! - We took the one day group tour from Beijing to mutianyu Great Wall and we're really pleased. The drive was not too long and was winding through towns for the most part which made it interesting to gaze outside the van windows. Our guide May (Mei) was absolutely lovely and fun. The wall section wasn't too busy at all and we had plenty of time to explore it. The traditional lunch offered was super tasty, plentiful and not rushed at all. It was all really good value for our money and time. We really enjoyed all elements of the experience and wouldn't hesitate recommending May and the tour group at all. Thanks May for a really memorable day!

Amazing Trip to Mutianyu Great Wall - Went on a day trip to Mutianyu with a group of tourists (Tripadvisor did not give me the option to choose "Group Trip to Mutianyu" - this was not a "Private Trip"). We left early in the morning by bus from the Backpacker Hostel when it was chilly and a bit hazy in Beijing - even the Party cannot stop people from driving as the Party Congress is going on - and arrived around 11am at the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, greeted by blue skies and pleasant temperatures. Mutianyu is one of the best restored sections of the wall and less touristy than Badaling. With another member of the group, I used the Cable Car to get up to the wall from the shuttle stop and then hiked for a good 6 miles in total, all the way to Tower 25 and back. It was, with a couple of exceptions when it got very steep, not a very strenuous hike, but if you are not in the best shape or if you have very small children, you may of course not make it as far as we did, and you will not be able to get away from the tourists. Even so, you will not regret coming here, as the views of the wall, the forest around it, and the mountains in the distance, are stunning from the very beginning of your walk/hike from the Cable Car station. After returning to the shuttle bus stop, we had a delicious if somewhat salty lunch that was included in the price of the tour ($50/person); there was enough food for all 20 members of the group, with a number of different vegetarian and meat dishes to pick from, just as is the case in most traditional Chinese restaurants I had experienced thus far. Our tour guide had asked on the bus if anyone was vegetarian to make sure we would all get fed. We arrived back in Beijing around 4-5ish, a bit earlier than we had expected. People were dropped people off in different places, which is great because it can take a while to get anywhere in Beijing, despite the fast and reliable subway. Mei/May was the excellent tour guide on our trip. She always was friendly and happy, joked around a bit, and was available to answer individual questions - about the Great Wall and Chinese culture more generally. Mei introduced to us some features of the Great Wall when we arrived there. The introduction included certain parameters, for example how long it would approximately take to go to a specific part of the wall and when we would need to turn around to be back at the restaurant for lunch. Then she gave each couple or individual or family the "freedom" to hike where and however long they wanted; in other words, she didn't hike with us, which is just fine - if you want a personal tour, you need to book one. In short, I would love to do another tour with Mei. She was wonderful. Thanks! The one thing that I wish I would have known is that you have to pay extra for the Cable Car. Maybe this should be made even clearer on the hostel website. Mei informed us about the 120 yuan charge for the ride up the mountain, but the website had not mentioned this, so maybe this could be changed (the hostel or the tour company should do so).
