• Charlotte Amalie - As the capital and largest city of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Charlotte Amalie is located on St. Thomas. Established in 1666 as Taphus, it was renamed in 1691 in honor of Danish Queen Charlotte Amalie. The city features a deep-water harbor, once a pirate haven, now a bustling cruise ship port welcoming over 1.5 million passengers each year. Before Columbus’s arrival in 1493, the area was home to the Caribs, Arawaks, Ciboney, and Taíno peoples. The city is renowned for its Danish colonial architecture and landmarks such as St. Thomas Synagogue, Frederick Lutheran Church, Blackbeard’s Castle, Bluebeard’s Castle, and Fort Christian. Emancipation Park, a source of national pride and a tourist attraction, houses a replica of the Liberty Bell and a statue of a freed slave blowing a conch shell.

• Brewer’s Bay - Brewer’s Bay is a hidden gem with a sunlit shore flanked by lush green hills on one side and the University of the Virgin Islands campus on the other. Known for its calm waters and crystal-clear sea, it is a favorite spot for Green Sea Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles. The sandy seafloor deepens gradually, offering an easy slope for entry, making it ideal for wading and swimming.

• Neltjeberg Bay - Experience paradise with a stunning sandy shoreline and tranquility. The beach offers views of Inner Brass, a small island, and provides excellent swimming and decent snorkeling opportunities. A walk along the beach reveals a wild tangle of coconut palms, perfect for photos. Look for a swing in a coconut tree near the water for some fun. Nearby, plantation ruins are nestled among the trees, including a factory, animal mill, stable, slave quarters, and dry-stone walls. These ruins, dating back to the late 1700s to early 1800s when the island was under Danish rule, are partially visible from the dirt road and appear to be fiercely guarded by the surrounding trees and vines.

• Mountain Top - For over 50 years, the World Famous Mountain Top has been the top tourist attraction in the Virgin Islands! From the Observation Deck, 1500 feet above Magens Bay, visitors can see over 15 islands and cays, including Magens Bay, St. John, and the British Virgin Islands. Known for its world-famous banana daiquiri and extensive duty-free shopping, Mountain Top is one of the island’s first attractions. Perched atop St. Peter Mountain, it boasts the Caribbean’s largest duty-free gift shop, bar, and observation deck with breathtaking views of the British Virgin Islands.

• Drake’s Seat - Located on the North side of St. Thomas, Drake’s Seat is a popular tourist spot offering a panoramic view of Magens Bay Beach. Easily recognizable by an open lookout area on one side of the road and a distinctive green bench labeled “The Drake Seat” on the other, local legend suggests it was built by Sir Francis Drake, an English privateer, who used this vantage point to watch for approaching enemy ships.

• Skyline Drive - Capture one last stunning photo of the beautiful emerald waters and islands surrounding St. Thomas before descending the mountain to Charlotte Amalie! The Skyline Drive Overlook provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the harbor, including Charlotte Amalie below, Hassel Island, Water Island, the cruise ship docks, and more! Typically, a vendor or two is set up for a final chance to purchase a souvenir.

• St. Thomas - Hidden Gem - This medium-sized sandy beach offers a relaxed atmosphere in a picturesque cove, with plenty of shade trees and numerous picnic tables for a day-long visit. Several swings are hidden around the area—try to find them all! Walking down the beach towards the east, where it narrows, provides better views of the island and Green Cay, just off the shore. This cay and its surroundings offer excellent snorkeling opportunities, with a variety of fish, starfish, turtles, and other marine life to discover.

• Red Hook - Red Hook/Cabrita Point - Red Hook is the vibrant hub of the East End of St. Thomas, offering a marina, fishing and boating excursions, ferries, island-style shops, restaurants, bars, offices, banks, and more! Stroll along the marina to admire the boats or see what anglers have caught. Cabrita Point offers one of the most unique and picturesque views of St. John. Even frequent visitors to St. Thomas may not have discovered this spot! Just past Vessup Beach (a local favorite) and the Ritz Carlton, the loop around Cabrita Point is home to beautiful villas with panoramic views that make you feel as if you’re on the waterway between St. Thomas and St. John.
