Highlights

Your visit to Boone Hall Plantation starts with transportation by climate-controlled bus from the Charleston Visitor Center. Your gate fee is included in the price of the tour.

Founded in 1681, Boone Hall was built when Englishman Major John Boone came to Charleston and established a home on the banks of Wampacheone Creek. When you arrive, your tour begins on the front porch with a 30-minute presentation by a knowledgeable guide in historical dress. You will be introduced to the history of Boone Hall and its evolution through a variety of owners since the 17th century.

Learn many facets of the plantation’s history, and listen to a presentation called Slave Street, which provides a look at the living quarters, historical relics, and insight into the life of the slaves here. In addition, learn about Gullah culture, the language of the descendants of slaves who lived in the Lowcountry of Georgia and South Carolina. Boone Hall is the only plantation in the South Carolina Lowcountry to present a live presentation, in season, about this culture.

At the end of your journey, tour the garden to see antique roses that are more than 100 years old. Then head back to the bus for the return drive to Charleston.

Past to present overview - Started with Gullah presentation. A good look into culture. House tour with Ed was hilarious. Farm tour was a nice tractor ride to see the immaculate grounds and many crops. They don't shy away from dark slave past but bring it forward to the better days of the farm as a conservation leader to the community. Solid little snack shop since will spend hours there. Oak lined road to house is alone worth it.

Jackie Topped The Experience. - The very best was the Gullah show given by Jackie. She spoke, she sang, she totally enthralled us for 30 minutes. If you do nothing else, see that ! The short house tour was interesting, you'll need to get a time slot for that. If you're interested in getting a sweetwater woven basket, get it there...it's at least 40% cheaper than any of the markets.

Fantastic Tour - Really interesting tour of Boone Hall Plantation. I really enjoyed the Gullah discussion and song. She was very informative. Bring bug spray with you. The grounds are swampy and it's easy to get bitten by the bugs.

Focused Way to Spend the Day - The Boone Hall Plantation is a great place to experience a not so great part of our history. The Gullah presentation was fabulous and by using this tour you are transported to/from Charleston and learn some history on the way and kept on a firm schedule that is focused and provides enough time to see and experience everything you need to.

Boone Hall experience - Gullah talk the best! Slave cabins with informative presentations, tractor tour. Least favorite the mansion tour and guide.

Nice time, little expensive for what it is - We really enjoyed our tour! It wasn’t too long, Cathy did a great job driving and our group was so much fun! There was only 6 of us so it was nice and intimate. The plantation was smaller than expected and you are definitely paying for the convenience of being picked up/dropped off and explanation of how the tours work.

Good but pricy compared to doing it on your own - You are basically paying for transportation and entry into Boone plantation. It would have been a bit cheaper to take a car service there and buy your own tickets. The ride was nice and the tour guide did give helpful info on the way there.

Disappointed - Our shuttle driver Sean was wonderful and shared a bit of history as we made our way to the Boone plantation. How ever not worth the money, wish we knew we could have toured the plantation on your own. $28.00 on your own or $78.00 shuttle tour. Very disappointed only view the bottom of the plantation. Garden tour did not run because of rain, basket demonstration which was inside packed up and did not perform the demonstration .

No allowances for medical emergencies - Sadly, I had a heart condition the day before my excursion. I contacted the guy and he said that they would not refund my money, even though my doctor said I should not go because of my heart condition. I would have loved to change the date to go a different time, but this was not an option. I’m sure the experience would have been great, but I’m disappointed that there is no allowances for people with serious medical conditions preventing them from taking the trip.
