The Hamlet: It is believed to have inspired the Hameau de La Reine in the gardens of the Petit Trianon at Versailles. In 1774, the Prince de Condé constructed seven rustic cottages in the Anglo-Chinese garden, which was the latest trend at the time. The apparent simplicity and interior elegance are evident in the luxurious pink draperies and the abundance of plants depicted in engravings from that period.
All of high society gathered in this charmingly rural setting. After an extensive and delicate restoration in 2008, the Hamlet has been returned to its original state, free from the alterations made over the centuries.
Today, the five remaining houses serve as a venue for countryside picnics for visitors enchanted by the natural beauty and authenticity, located about 800 meters from the Château de Chantilly.
