It will be harder to visit Elafonisi beach for children, persons with health problems or walking difficulties. Elafonisi is located in the southwestern most tip of Crete. It is an oblong peninsula, which often breaks in two parts by water giving the impression of being a separate island. Exotic beaches with white sand and turquoise water, are formed on either sides of the peninsula. The sand is pinkish in many places, taking its color from millions of crushed shells. Near the breaking point of the peninsula, the sea creates a small lagoon which you can cross the lagoon in order to reach the island. The island is a mile long, ending in a rocky outcrop. Elafonisi is a Natura 2000 protected area home to more than 100 rare plants and a great shelter for rare loggerhead sea turtles.

A shallow lagoon allows visitors to walk to Elafonisi Island and explore its beautiful beaches.
The journey to the island passes through the breathtaking Topolia Gorge, charming villages, and diverse, captivating landscapes. This tour is designed not only to visit a beach but to make the journey itself an unforgettable experience.
Parking will be 1/4 mile (1/2 km) away, requiring a short hike along a dirt path to reach the beach. On the return trip, there will be a stop for lunch.
Upon request, there is an option to visit a winery, olive oil factory for a tasting tour, or a monastery.

Great personable experience! -
Our tour of Crete with George was absolutely perfect! From the moment he picked us up in a comfortable, air-conditioned van, we knew we were in great hands. George, who was born and raised on the island, has an incredible wealth of knowledge about Crete and shared fascinating stories and history along the way. His English was excellent, and he was so friendly and attentive, always making sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves.
The highlight, of course, was the drive out to stunning Elafonisi Beach — one of the most gorgeous places we’ve ever seen. You will need to bring your own towels and a change of clothes is recommended as well. George let us relax and spend as much time as we wanted there before taking us to a small local restaurant for lunch. He introduced us to authentic Cretan dishes and shared the background of the island’s culinary traditions, which made the meal even more special.
This tour was the perfect mix of natural beauty, local culture, and warm hospitality. Highly recommend booking with George — he made our Crete experience unforgettable.

Great Experience! - Great experience with Sofia! Elafonisi Beach did not disappoint! Very lovely, relaxing and beautiful day! Left early to avoid crowds, so smart! Stops along the way for breaks, souvenirs, local sights. Lunch at a traditional Greek family restaurant was delicious. Shout out to Sofia, thank you again, a highlight of our trip, thanks to you!

Elafonisi Beach private tour - Our tour guide Sofia was very obliging and stopped at many places of interest along the way to Elafonisi Beach. There we were given free time to relax & explore parts of this beautiful beach after which we were driven back to Chania to have lunch at a local restaurant and enjoy more free time to explore the old town. Her English was very good and she shared her local knowledge and love for Chania with us.

Great Beach Day with Sofia!! - We went to Elafonisi Beach with one of the company's main guides Sofia! Sofia had everything planned from us, made sure we stopped when we needed to and took some pictures inside a gorge and then took us to one of the best beaches we have seen (and we have travelled a lot) Elafonisi! Absolutely marvellous our kids completely loved it! In the end we stopped at a village restaurant where we had a fantastic lunch!! Thanks to Sofia, she made our day trip as our best day in the island we had!!

great day at elafonisi beach - Had a very nice day travelling to Elafonisi beach with our guide. She did a job making sure we were comfortable and traveled safely back and forth. We had 3 sets of chairs and umbrellas waiting for us in a prime location on the Beach given her set up. Elafonisi beach was one of the nicest I have seen, with shallow blue water. On the way back we stopped small restaurant and had the most amazing goat with olive oil.

Professional and Kind! - We had a great time on this tour. Sofia was our guide and she was very responsive. Unfortunately for us, Elafonisi was SUPER windy when we went so we were only able to stay for a little while, and unfortunately the system they have there does not provide notice of weather/wind conditions. Sofia was able to pivot and took us to Agia Marina which was a very nice beach, and then took us to a nice restaurant as well (at our cost, of course). She then was nice enough to drive us to a supermarket as we needed to pick up groceries and then drive us home. All in all, it was a successful tour given the circumstances. Sofia was very nice, accommodating and spent the time after the tour to send us a ton of recommendations for restaurants and other things to do and see in our area.

Beach and Lunch in Heaven! - Hello, we were on a cruise in the Mediterranean Sea. We had a 12 hour stop in Crete. Our choice was the Elafonisi Beach. I have been to beaches around the world, clearly this is my new #1 i will compare to all others. Absolutely perfect for families, couples and friends. While most of the pink beach is now gone you can see it especially at the sand bar area in the middle of the water. It is a 90+ min ride from Cruise Port. Fortunately our awesome tour guide Sophia was able to call ahead and get us sun beds with two umbrellas. The place fills up by 9 AM. That said you can buy umbrellas there as you walk down or bring them along cheaper in the town before.
The water is the clearest I have ever seen for salt water, no algae. The beach is huge and you can walk out a great distance before reaching 5 feet, ideal for those who like to paddle out and talk and families with little kids. There is lots of beach to hike not feel crowded. We stayed 4 hours which was probably plenty for us. The trip to and from the beach was amazing our guide was very informative about Crete being a local who grew up there left and has come back for family life. The tour finished with an awesome lunch at local family restaurant, very affordable for families or newly weds. Food was top 3 on our extensive trip to Mediterranean. The best Moussaka and Dolmades I have ever eaten.
