Highlights
  • Piazza del Duomo - At the GS (GuidingSicily) infopoint in Piazza Duomo you will meet one of us, all authorized guides with official licenses. Together we will go to the discovery of Catania, a city teeming with life and full of sounds, colors and smells, eager to discover itself in the prying gaze of the curious traveler.
Let’s start right from the DUOMO, Norman in origin and baroque in appearance, an imposing building that in a few decades celebrates its first thousand years of history. On this same square there is also Palazzo degli Elefanti, our Town Hall, and the fountain with the symbol of the city, the liotru, an elephant in lava stone surmounted by an obelisk.
If you have chosen the morning walking tour we will certainly not miss the adjacent historic fish market, where not only the freshest fish is exhibited, but you will find typical cold cuts and cheeses of the region, as well as fruit at literally bargain prices.

Best way to visit the city - Exactly what I expected. The only way to discover when you have with limited time in the city. The guide was very kind and answered our questions.

Maria Luisa and Catania are a perfect match! - Maria -Luisa was a fantastic guide. She was not only extremely knowledgable about Catania‘s history, she had a great knowledge of all of Sicily and every nuance of the local culture. She grave great tips about local food, specialties, and customs, and all with her own special personality, which we really appreciated. As our first tour of our Sicily trip, Maria- Louisa could not have been a better start to our trip!

Magic - Magical villages/town that are worth visiting. We were 6 in the group plus our driver, Angelo. I liked him very much, he was very knowledgeable and respectfull, also a very good driver who brought us back in safety to Catania. He had cold water in the van so we could refill our bottles. He was with us all along the way talking about the history of this land. In Taormina he gave us 2 hour free time. We did a pleasant (altough very very hot) walk in Savoca, visited a crypt, than we visited Castelmola where we had lunch. It is not a difficult walk and there are only a few steps,so elderly people could do it too. Altough I do not recommend it in summertime, only if you can easily support the heat. The lunch was delicious and enough (bruschete, wine, almond liqour, pasta) and included in the price. I definitely recommend this tour!

Loaded with historical and cultural information - This guided tour covers a lot of ground over 2 hours and views most of the major ancient buildings in Catania. Very knowledgeable and the description of the historical context is assisted by the visual aids in the museum which is included in the tour.

Best tour guide in Sicily! - She was the best tour guide I had in a whole month and a half of traveling Italy and at least a dozen paid tours and excursions during that time — hands down! Personable, hilarious, extensive knowledge and wonderful storytelling ability… The best!

Excellent tour of the city with Giuseppe - Highly recommend this easy walking (mostly - a few sidewalks were old & rough) tour of the city. Covered a bit of history of the city as well as the present day status of the people & attractions. Giuseppe was a pleasant and informative guide who is from Catania. It was a hot day so he was mindful of taking breaks and finding shade for us. He was very helpful with guests with lost items during our tour. The fish market was fun & interesting tour stop. Really enjoyed it!

The best hostess Esther! - We went on this tour upon our arrival to Catania and had the good fortune of meeting Esther, our guide. Knowledgeable, fun, and full of interesting personal anecdotes that made us feel as if we were on a stroll with a friend. She started in the Duomo, telling us all about St. Agatha and her martyrdom, took us inside the church pointing to all the important aspects of the church and it’s relevance to the city’s inhabitants. Outside she told us about all the buildings around the main piazza before taking us to the market and then over by the monastery, all along intermingling anecdotes, facts of importance, and offerings recommendations for sites, bars, and restaurants to visit. Definitely a positive and certainly recommended!!

one day visit - To see the Pesce market, the duomo, enjoy its pastries, eat in a typical restaurant, explore its beautiful streets, the historical part, making a base in Catania is a good option to explore.
