Highlights
  • Cefalù - The Madonie Mountains is scattered with picturesque hilltop towns. One of the prettiest is Castelbuono. After stop at the Medieval abbey, you’ll stroll in the idyllic town center and visit the majestic castle donated to Sant’Anna. Literally a piece of heaven, the old abbey is now famous all over the world because of its gold-medals-awarded winery company. There you will taste some of their selected wines and typical appetizers, all without forgetting a visit of their cellar where you will enjoy the smell of their handcrafted oak barrels, manufactured in the department of Allier. Definitely a must for guests that come to this side of Sicily.

A typical day would be:

2:30pm - 3pm Depart from resort/meeting point

3:20pm ca. Visit the Abbey’s cellar to then enjoy the wine tasting

5:00pm ca. Arrive in Castelbuono Fiasconaro’s pastry tasting, stroll in the medieval streets of the town.

7:30pm ca. Leave Castelbuono and return to resort/pick up point

Lovely day in Sicily - Really lovely, relaxed tour with an informative guide. Was very easy, filled with lots of info about Sicily, Sicilian wine and the region. Would highly recommend, beautiful way to see the countryside too.

Don't miss Castelbuono - Fantastic tour to difficult to reach places that are true gems. The wine tour and tasting in the beautiful abbazia was very professional and enjoyable. Castelbuono was a fairytale dream with the added bonus of the Fiasconaro tasting. Valeria our guide was fantastic, warm, friendly and fun and informative. Mille grazie. Highly recommend.

Even in a very large... - Even in a very large group it was very nice and perfect to get an overview over the region and the wines. Very nice, uncomplicated and sympathetic guide! Very good experience for a „half-day“ trip!

Castelbuono is a must see - Castelbuono was a great experience. The town itself is so cute and located in the mountains in the national park. I wouldn't have thought to come up there if it wasn't for the tour. Highly recommend. The tour guides are knowledgeable and personable and the sights are breath taking.

Lovely, but quite a big group - Great tour, slightly rushed and group was way over 15 people so felt a little like being in a seminar but wine was fab, and Castelbuono was gorgeous.

A very nice experience. I... - A very nice experience. I enjoyed the tour of the winery and the tastings. They paired the wines with some local cheeses, salami and olives. Castelbuono was beautiful and the views were lovely.

All right. 50% of the trip is BYTUR...., had chosen another wine tour next time - Had not received notification of attendance where they had not sent it to me in advance, the guide asked me to download WhatsApp to send attendance space Come on the trip. The guide was kind to pick us up on the other side of the road. Speaking a little broken, we have yet another insidejoke me and the cheresten where she told us that small olive trees are younger than the big ones. Big trees are older than small ones. Nosh*t Gone quickly through the windstiller, short to fine to go well into the depth. Sitting us down later to have to taste the wine, it was nice. I personally got much less in the glass than the others on the first wine to feel a little cheated. Got the opportunity to buy wine afterwards which was not so expensive actually! It tasted good. Very strict schedule. For me, I would have looked forward to standing in the wine opener, or if the host had to take pictures of the vineyards... very disappointing not to do so. After the winter when we were going home we randomly stopped in a town H or we got a taste of pannering and manna, and 40 min “free time” came out of the blue ... this was a “winter trip”???? Where is the wine, the vineyards. Anyway... the guide to the distiller was super cool! But had chosen another wine tour next time

Interesting trip but group size too big - This trip is clearly sold stating a maximum group size of 15. The actual group size was well over 40, which is not what we would expect, and contrary to the booking information. The guide was very good, and the wine tasting and visit to Castelbuono were both interesting and to be recommended. But the tour around the winery, whilst interesting, was drawn out due to the large group size and the need to say everything in both English and French. It was therefore not really very easy to engage with the guide or ask questions, and I therefore didn’t feel like we came away with as good an understanding of the processes as we should have done. A shame because it marred what should have been an excellent trip. I also suspect that the group size resulted in less time at Castelbouno than should have been allowed. Viator should be careful how this trip is marketed !

Disappointing tour guide - not like Roberta who does the dinner in mountains day out - I was really looking forward to this tour and the wind tasting itself was very nice although they had miscommunicated the number of us on the tour which meant we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table to be set for us and extra wine glasses and the plates of food to be ready. It was however the lackluster tour guide that made this a disappointing trip - she told us the history on the way in the coach but made no effort to get to know us and conducted all of this narration in a monotone voice and without looking at us at all! If I compare this tour guide to the wonderful Roberta who oversaw the dinner in the mountains they are really night and day - Roberta's passion and energy were simply contagious whereas this lady seemed bored and made the tour disappointing when a tour guide's role is to energize and inspire those she is guiding.

Falsely advertised trip - False advertising. This is not a trip with a maximum of 15, there were around 50 people on the trip (see photos) , which affected the ability to hear the guide in the winery & meant you did not get long in the old town due to the queuing for the toilets & the wine shop earlier. The wine tasting was ok but nothing to write home about. The coach (which was required for such a large group) was not air conditioned as advertised. The tasting at the pastry shop in the old town is offered to any member of the public not just on this trip but the snacks & liquors were nice. Be ready to queue with the large group again though to purchase anything from them.
