Windy Weekend Adventures in Cassis: Embrace the Breezy Beauty of Provence
Experience the windy charm of Cassis this weekend, where the Mistral winds add a touch of drama to your adventures. From wine tasting in Bandol to exploring the stunning Calanques, this is a weekend of indulgence and discovery in the heart of Provence.
Morning Bliss in Cassis
As the sun rises over the charming coastal village of Cassis, the day begins with a gentle embrace of the Mistral winds, setting the stage for a weekend of exploration and indulgence. On March 29th, the morning is clear and crisp, with temperatures feeling like a refreshing 56.6°F. It’s the perfect time to embark on a wine tour through the ancient town of Le Castellet and the quaint harbor of Cassis. This tour, available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, offers a delightful blend of wine tasting, medieval sightseeing, and local cuisine.
The vineyards of Bandol, renowned for their robust reds and delicate rosés, await your discovery. As you sip on these exquisite wines, the wind whispers through the vines, adding a touch of drama to the experience. The tour also includes a dining break at a hand-picked restaurant, where the flavors of Provence come alive on your palate. A recent review from July 2024 captures the essence of this experience:
The perfect, VIP experience - Our group of 6 spent a whole day with Laurent, and it was one of the best decisions we made. First, Laurent was professional and accommodating. He picked us up from our port and planned an unforgettable day, taking into account our dietary restrictions and preferences. Second, Laurent’s knowledge of the area from history to the natural vegetation was highly impressive. He took us to local and truly special spots that he personally had scouted out, where we felt like the only tourists present. Finally, Laurent’s personality and friendliness sealed the deal on a perfect day. You could not hope to have a better guide to accompany your group for any length of time. (Reviewed at: 2024-07-19)
Afternoon Adventures Along the Coast
As the day progresses, the cloud cover increases, but the allure of Cassis remains undiminished. The afternoon is an ideal time to explore the stunning Calanques National Park. The scenic coastal adventure offers a guided day trip from Marseille, available from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, where you can immerse yourself in the breathtaking Mediterranean views and dramatic cliffside scenery.
Opt for an exhilarating drive along the Cretes Route, which rises above Cap Canaille—the tallest sea cliff in Europe. The wind, though strong, adds a sense of exhilaration as you take in the panoramic vistas. Alternatively, a peaceful boat tour reveals the hidden coves of the national park, where the azure waters meet the rugged limestone cliffs. A review from August 2019 highlights the joy of this adventure:
Fun time in Cassis! - We enjoyed ourselves very much! We ended up changing plans at the last minute and went to Cassis instead of Avignon, but had a wonderful time. We walked around one of the Calanques initially, then went to a winery for a tasting and took photos on the top of the cliffs. We spent the afternoon in Cassis, where we ate lunch and took a boat to the Calanques, and then were dropped off at our hotel in the evening. He recommended a couple of restaurants, and we did our own thing for a few hours. We chose to take a boat tour, but you could also shop, hang at the wine bar, or go to the beach (so bring your swimsuit if you want to swim!). Because it was Sunday we had to be a little flexible with what we did (many/most French businesses are closed on Sundays), but we were alright with it, especially since Cassis was lovely. Also, the views from the cliffs were really breathtaking! The guide is friendly, fun and fluent in English, French and Spanish. Altogether, we had a great experience! (Reviewed at: 2019-08-18)
