Place Outa el Hammam - Arrive in Chefchaouen in the late afternoon, check into a charming Riad, and enjoy a free evening to visit the famous Outa el Hammam square. Ouarzazate - Depart Skoura in the morning for Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” “Noiseless Town,” and “The Door of the Desert.” This city, located on a bare plateau south of the High Atlas Mountains, is mainly inhabited by Berbers who built many of the area’s famous kasbahs. Visit Taourirt Kasbah, built in the 17th century, for photos from outside.

Ouarzazate is nicknamed “Hollywood of Africa” because it is a popular film location, with Morocco’s largest studios attracting international film companies. Films shot here include Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Living Daylights (1987), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), The Mummy (1999), Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Martin Scorsese’s Kundun (1997), and Babel (2005).

Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - After Ouarzazate, drive about 30 km to the fortified city of Aït Benhaddou, built in the 11th century. Once a caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakesh, it is situated on a hill along the Ounila River and features beautiful kasbahs, though they suffer damage from rain and windstorms. Most residents now live in a modern village across the river, but around five families still reside in the kasbah. Aït Benhaddou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, and films shot here include Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Time Bandits (1981), The Jewel of the Nile (1985), Kundun (1997), Gladiator (2000), and Alexander (2004). From this stunning site, head west to Marrakech, known as the “Homeland of God” in Berber.
