- Caherconnell Stone Fort & Sheepdog Demonstrations - Caherconnell Stone Fort, situated 1km south of Poulnabrone dolmen in the heart of the Burren Ireland, offers you the opportunity to visit an exceptionally well - preserved example of the stone forts or stone ringforts which are to be found in the Burren Ireland. The fort is in its original state. Its position, overlooking virtually all-surrounding areas suggests a defensive settlement. Archaeological excavations take place each summer in association with ‘CAFS’ - Caherconnell Archaeological Field School- an International Field School accredited by NUI, Galway. As well as a trip to the Fort, visitors can also take in the Burren’s Premier Sheepdog Demonstrations at Caherconnell, enjoying the combined skills of the farmer and the border collie as they work in the natural habitat of the Burren. Informative, Interesting, Inspiring! - Everything about our experience was fantastic! From the initial warm and friendly greeting to identify which experience we were there for, to assistance shopping and directing us to restrooms, and the restaurant if we were hungry. We would do this again!

Just a must see - This was our fourth trip in 2025. We own a home in Doonbeg and always bring our guests to see the Pups and Fort.
Staff in the shop/cafe are always so pleasant.

We loved everything about it! - Super fun tour of the fort with lots of knowledgeable tour guides, they were also quite funny! We loved it. We enjoyed the sheep dog demonstration so much! It was super cool to learn about how the dogs are trained and to watch them do their thing!! We are so happy we made the trip to the Caherconnell fort! :)

Fantastic - Truly fantastic experience at caherconnell stone fort. Our tour guide pat was a brilliant guide. He made us laugh from start to finish and has such a fantastic way of explaining the history of the place. Can’t wait to visit again.

A great afternoon - We booked the Sheepdog and Fort for 10:15. Unfortunately we were late, however they very nicely accommodated us and changed the time. The fort was very interesting, and the guide very knowledgeable. Enjoyed listening to the history.
Loved the sheepdog demo. Loved seeing the dogs work, and learning how they trained their dogs. Seen another demo a few years ago, but enjoyed this one much more.
