Highlights
  • Walker Bay Nature Reserve - Scenic Drive to Hermanus

Departing from Cape Town via the N2, the journey to Hermanus offers breathtaking views of Walker Bay and the surrounding mountains.

Hermanus, located on the stunning South Coast of the Western Cape, is just a 90-minute drive from Cape Town. Renowned for its exceptional whale watching, this coastal town attracts thousands of visitors during whale season to witness these majestic creatures.

  • Hermanus Cliff Path - Explore this charming town known for its seasonal whale watching. Stroll along the coastal trail for close encounters with the whales.

Visit The Gearings Point, a popular whale-watching spot. Scan the ocean for activity and with a bit of patience, you’ll be rewarded.

After whale watching, head to The Waterfront for lunch at one of the many restaurants. For a different perspective, consider boat-based whale watching—just ask your driver/guide.

After an exciting day, visit Benguela Cove, a picturesque winery. It’s a photographer’s dream. Enjoy some of South Africa’s finest wines with stunning ocean and mountain views. You can also take a vineyard tour—ask at the reception.

Continue to Betty’s Bay along the scenic coastal drive and visit the Stony Point Penguin Colony.

  • Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate - Wine Tasting

After whale watching, return to Cape Town via a wine estate. Enjoy lunch and reflect on the day’s experiences with a glass of wine and stunning views of Walker Bay.

  • Stony Point Penguin Colony - African Penguin at Stony Point Nature Reserve

Next, visit Stony Point Nature Reserve in the quaint coastal town of Betty’s Bay, Overberg. This reserve is home to a unique colony of African penguins. View these flightless birds up close via the boardwalk without disturbing them.

The reserve also hosts three species of cormorants: the crowned cormorant, cape cormorant, and black cormorant, all breeding on the outer rocks. Additionally, you can spot the rock hyrax (Dassie), Hartlaub Gulls, and Kelp Gulls.

  • Kogelberg Nature Reserve - Named after Rear-Admiral Thomas Pringle of the Royal Navy, who commanded the Cape naval station in the late 1970s.

Pringlebaai, a small coastal town in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, has a population of just over 1600. Situated at the foot of Hangklip, it overlooks False Bay from Cape Point and is part of the UNESCO Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.

Pringle Bay lies between Betty’s Bay and Gordon’s Bay, with most homes used as holiday retreats.

  • Gordon’s Bay Main Beach - Clarence Drive is one of the world’s most scenic routes, stretching over 48km between Gordon’s Bay and Kleinmond. Majestic mountains meet the beautiful blue ocean, creating stunning views.

With numerous viewing points along this drive, you can stop for photos or simply enjoy the scenery. The area is also home to the famous chacma baboons, always ready for a photo opportunity.

This drive is one of South Africa’s most scenic and is well worth the effort. If you enjoy winding roads, this route features 77 curves, including four exceeding 150 degrees.

The road is in excellent condition, attracting tourists, locals, bikers, and cyclists.

Please adhere to the speed limit and be cautious while overtaking. Enjoy the impressive scenery safely.

Great Tour Massive Experience - As a group of students doing studies on wildlife this was a perfect trip. i led this group from the UK and Raw Tours did not disappoint. We arrived at the gearings point the most vintage point for whale watching but were advised to do the boat based whale watching. Our guide Eric was swift and smart by arranging that trip with the boat company. And we were taken out at sea deep into the ocean and on the other side of the bay. It was action all the 2 hours till we left. Those huge creations are so graceful in water and very shy also. We had the opportunity to visit the penguins also at a place called stony beach where we got so close to the African penguins. The drive back - McLaren drive is also an awesome sight. Great Tour great Experience.
