An Amazing Experience With a Thoroughly Professional and Personable Guide - At the outset I was impressed by the genuine warmth of Samuel when he picked me up my my hotel. On our way to the hotel he outlined where we and the two others who joined would be going and what we would be seeing. What impressed me were the questions he asked to see if we had any agendas or any predispositions. His attention to the details of what were we seeing was impressive. What impressed me as well was the fact that throughout the day he was talking with and nit at to to us. He was patient in his explanations and he would ask questions to us in such a way so that we got to understand that he wanted us to get the full impact of what we were seeing. As someone who as a profession spends time questioning people I was impressed by the fact that there were things that he did not know, and freely admitted the same instead of (as so many guides do) pull some explanation out of the air and hope it satisfies. His explanations were in a conversational manner as distinct from so many other guides who simply worked from memorized scripts. On some of the stops when we were approached by street vendors selling wares I suspect turned out at some mill, Sam would look at us and subtlety shake hi head as a signal. As someone who is a little older I am thankful that Sam took care to help me with an arm when I was a little unsteady, treating me, not as a client, but as an older member of his family. AND Sam is an excellent driver. I felt thoroughly safe in his hands. I will be back to Capetown sooner rather than later later and Sam is my 'go to' person in Capetown. Absolute Best Way to Experience the Cape Peninsula - Our private tour was led by our amazing guide Samuel who started the day by picking us up from our accommodations and was able to get us to Boulder Beach right before the big crowds arrived to see the penguins. That alone was totally worth the booking. We then continued our tour down the cape peninsula where Samuel was accommodating in stopping at points of interests along the route. He was also a wealth of information and passionate to teach us about the beautiful landscape, the history of Cape Town, and the past and current struggles in South Africa post Apartheid. The private tour is the best way to experience the Cape of Good Hope due to cellphone service and Uber/car ride service unreliability.
