Highlights
  • The Long March to Freedom - Shortly after being picked up from your hotel by a knowledgeable tour guide driver, you’ll be taken to the newly relocated “The Long March to Freedom” exhibit, which was previously situated in Pretoria. Now housed in Cape Town’s Century City suburb, about 10 km from the city center, this exhibit is part of a larger project featuring over 500 life-size bronze statues commemorating South Africa’s struggle for freedom. These figures collectively illustrate a timeline of South Africa’s 350-year journey to democracy, starting in 1652 with the Dutch East India Company’s settlement in Cape Town and culminating in the 1994 democratic elections. It is the world’s largest outdoor display of individual sculptures, using public art to celebrate the nation’s heritage and offering visitors a unique and engaging way to learn about South African history.
  • Canal Walk Shopping Centre - Directly opposite the Long March to Freedom statues is the Canal Walk Shopping Centre. Built in 2000 around a canal, this mall boasts over 400 shops. Here, you can enjoy a bit of shopping and have lunch at one of the beautiful restaurants with stunning views.
  • Robben Island Museum - The third part of our trip involves a boat or ferry ride to Robben Island. The entire excursion, including the prison tour and the return trip, will take about 3 to 4 hours. Your expert guide driver will not accompany you, as Robben Island Museum has its own tour guides, many of whom are former political prisoners.
  • Victoria & Alfred Waterfront - You can have lunch at a nearby restaurant at the Victoria and Alfred Mall or go shopping. Located in South Africa’s oldest working harbor, this 123-hectare (300-acre) area has been developed for mixed-use, featuring both residential and commercial properties. The Waterfront attracts over 23 million visitors annually.
