Lion’s Head - Sunrise/Sunset Hike up Lion’s Head.
The trail going up Lion’s head is a screw top trail you’ll be circling the mountain getting to the top. This means you’re getting views in all directions. At a certain point the path gives way to rough ground and you have to step up using your hands to scramble over rocks. You will then continue steeply upwards to the first ladder, before traversing left along a shelf with a chain handrail. Next, you will continue with the path until you reach a fork, where you will have the choices to either veer left to circumnavigate two rock pitches, or to turn right and climb the rock pitches. If you are not into vertical rock steps simply continue left, from where you can carry on with the path past some huge stone pine trees to gain the crest of the southeast ridge.
At the summit of Lion’s Head one has a 360 degree view of Cape Town it is one of the three iconic peaks that frame the city of Cape Town. It has Table Mountain as its backdrop and it is situated in one of the smallest but richest floral kingdoms in the world. Then little by little, the city lights will turn off/on to offer a new sight for our way down you will be provided with a headlamp.

Lion’s Head can be reached within fifteen minutes from the city and the summit can be reached within an hour. Lion’s Head has Table Mountain as its backdrop and is situated in one of the smallest but richest floral kingdoms in the world. Hiking Lion’s Head for sunset is a Captonian tradition. The evening sun often casts a golden glow over the ocean and Cape Town coastline creating a warm and serene ambiance. Then again Hiking Lion’s Head at Sunrise create a magical and peacefully atmosphere. The sky changing colors can provide stunning photo opportunities. Small-group tour with a maximum of 5 persons means a more authentic and personal experience.

Sunset hike - Was an amazing experience- thanks to our super guides! We hiked for the sunset and had beautiful views the whole time. Pack a lot of water and some snacks to eat up there.
12/10 absolutely must do!

Great challenge! - Amazing trip with guide Frank, great for solo travellers and felt very safe. When climbing you start with an uphill slope and then it goes into steeper parts where you use hands and feet and climb ladders etc so good agility is important. After sunset came back in the dark with head torches. Highly recommend.

A perfect morning - We had a perfect sunrise trip with Patrick as our guide. Perfect weather conditions for an amazing view which is worth every step. To top it all off our guide Patrick was an absolute gentleman full of knowledge,experience and expertise. He also knew a few quieter routes to avoid the crowds and he really made our morning along with the sighting of a porcupine. He was also our very obliging photographer for the morning

Amazing sunrise hike! - Amazing sunrise hike with Patrick, great communication and pickup and felt like we were in very safe hands! We were able to take breaks on the way and it was very helpful having a guide in the dark (and especially good we were provided with headlamps). Sunrise was spectacular and would highly recommend this tour.

Lions head sunrise hike - Patrick was a fantastic guide, I am not a pro hiker and also nervous of heights and Patrick took that all into consideration and made me feel at ease. A challenging hike but a rewarding one!

Solo traveller - Hiking Lion's Head with Patrick for sunrise was super great. Recommended to everyone that is minimally fit. Also recommended sunrise as it seems that sunset gets quite more crowded

Amazing experience! - I did the Lion's head sunset hike with Patrick and it was an amazing experience!
Patrick is very frienfly and always attentive, adjusting the pace or helping you if needed. Conversation flows very easily and you will have the opportunity to learn about the local fauna, flora, and interesting aspects of the city.
The view is mesmerizing all the way up to the top and there are no words to describe how beautiful it is to watch the sunset!
After the sunset, Patrick provides you with a headlight, so it is a very safe hike.
I will definitely recommend this hike with Patrick to my friends!

A must try! - We experienced the sunset hike with Patrick! And it was amazing! I told him I would consider this more of rock climbing than hiking lol but Patrick was great! He gave enough breaks and never made us feel rushed or unsafe. Unfortunately the weather was not great but we enjoyed it nonetheless and on the hike down we were able to see the sun peak through the clouds and rain. Booking was seamless. I booked it that morning at 6 am. And he arrived for our pick up right on time. I would highly recommend!
