- Somerset West - Somerset West is a town in the Western Cape Province, South Africa. It is part of the Cape Town metropolitan municipality and a suburb of the Helderberg region.
Somerset West is situated in the Helderberg Basin, encircled by a natural amphitheater of mountains between the Cape Winelands and False Bay.
The Helderberg Nature Reserve, a 363-hectare wildlife preserve established in 1964, is located here. It features a wide variety of smaller fauna and remarkable examples of indigenous flora, such as Protea and fynbos.

In 2001, the population census recorded 21,593 residents. Grabouw is surrounded by the Hottentots Holland and Groenland mountains to the north and the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve to the south.

The Elgin Valley is renowned for producing 60% of the national apple crop, earning it the nickname “where the apples come from.”
Recently, a shift in economic focus has positioned Elgin as one of South Africa’s most prominent and successful wine regions, boasting the coolest climate of any region in the country. Consequently, Elgin wines and tourism have become significant contributors to the valley’s economy.

Tourists flock to Hermanus between June and December for whale watching. The whales that typically visit the South African coast here include the Humpback Whale, Southern Right Whale, and Bryde’s Whales.
Visitors can observe the whales along the 11km coastal walking trail, which offers strategic viewing points along the shore. Whales are often seen gliding in pairs just a short distance from the beach, providing a memorable experience for most tourists who come to Hermanus for whale watching.

- Stony Point Penguin Colony - Located in the charming town of Betty’s Bay in the Overberg, the Stony Point Nature Reserve is home to a unique colony of African Penguins.
Stony Point offers visitors the chance to observe these delightful flightless birds up close via the boardwalk, without disturbing them as they go about their daily activities in their natural habitat.
The colony also hosts three species of cormorant: the Crowned Cormorant, Cape Cormorant, and Bank Cormorant, all of which breed on the outer rocks. Additionally, Hartlaub’s Gulls and Kelp Gulls forage in the colony.
The Rock Hyrax can be spotted on the surrounding rocks. The colony is situated on the site of the old Waaygat Whaling Station, which was used for harvesting and processing whale meat in the early to mid-1900s.
This nature reserve is home to approximately 3,600 penguins.
