Magical experience - We did the whale shark tour with Cindy and her colleague, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The tour began with about an hour-long boat ride to reach the whale shark area. The boat was very comfortable, and the ride itself was really pleasant. During the journey, the guides gave us fun and informative tips about swimming with whale sharks, keeping everyone engaged and excited. When we arrived at the location, there were some other boats around, but it wasn’t overcrowded at all. We entered the water two at a time, taking turns to swim with these incredible creatures. It was truly a magical experience. In the water, Cindy guided us very well and made sure we felt safe and confident. Each of us had the chance to go in two to three times, which made the experience even more special. After swimming, we were treated to a delicious lunch and had time to relax and swim in the stunning clear waters around Isla Mujeres. It was truly a day to remember!

Amazing once in a lifetime experience - We had an incredible time with Contou Adventures! Swimming with the whale sharks was unforgettable, and Geovanny made the whole experience even better. He was super knowledgeable and took great care of us the entire time. What really stood out was how patient and kind he was with our 8-year-old son—he made sure he felt safe and included, which meant a lot to us. You can tell Geovanny really loves what he does, and it shows. Highly recommend Contou Adventures, and if you get the chance, go with Geovanny!

Breathtaking experience snorkeling with Whale Sharks. - Everything was excellent! We got picked up from our hotel and headed to the meeting point where we had coffee and light breakfast. After that, we got on a speed boat to experience the Whale Sharks snorkeling, which was the highlight of this tour. We got to snorkel 2 times with one of the most amazing creatures on the planet.

If you’re thinking about going DO IT! - My family and I had the absolute best experience thanks to Nate and Julian! I was a bit nervous going in initially but Nate made me feel comfortable, he has 20 years of experience and it shows! They are both very passionate about their tours and it radiates and makes others excited too! We love Nate and Julian and had a soul-changing experience with the whale sharks on their tour.

Good, but too crowded - Good overall, but too crowded. Took a long time to get there- 1.5 hr ride by car (we stayed at Playa del Carmen) and then about 1hr by boat. You get to go 2 times (2 people at one time) and there were 10 people on the boat, so a lot of waiting. In addition there is a whole line of boats that wait in line to drop their people. Crew tried their best to drop us right at where the shark was and we saw a full front, side and back view. However shark swims away very fast so you have a minute or 2 max viewing time. Overall good experience if Mexico is your usual destination and you don't go to remote places.

Captain and crew were great - Axel and Raul Were amazing! The water was very rough so some people were sick but they did everything they could to make people comfortable. It takes over a hour to get to the whale sharks. There were a lot of boats in the area and we felt bad for the whale sharks because there were a lot of people and people weren’t following directions and staying 6 ft away.. The only downside was that the booking said $15 a person for the Marina dock fee, but when we arrived we’re were told 20 a person at the desk and they don’t take credit cards. Afterwards they try to sell you videos for $89 a video so bring your own camera.

Experience ruined! - I strongly advise against making this trip with Contoy Adventures. The staff has been rude and careless about customers' needs. Our family of eight had decided to take part in an excursion to see whale sharks. We booked through the Finest hotel, paying a total of 1,600.00 USD. Unfortunately, the assigned boat (with a maximum capacity of 10 people) had engine problems, forcing us to be stuck in the open sea for about an hour. Then other boats arrived, already full, and we were forced to split up: two people for each boat, getting on four different boats and exceeding the capacity limit. This completely compromised the experience, which we had chosen precisely to live it together as a family. Upon returning, we asked at least to receive free photos taken during swimming with the whale shark, as a gesture of courtesy for the serious mishap suffered. The response was negative, with no sign of availability or attention to the customer. A disappointing experience from all points of view.

Good concept, horrible reality - After going snorkeling a couple of days prior, my family and I were very excited to go snorkeling with whale sharks. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the worst experience we had during our Cancun vacation. The tour started early with a 6:30am pick up at our hotel. After a 30-minutes or so shuttle ride, we arrived at the dock where they gave us a quick introduction, and we were on our way after another 30 minutes. While the boat captain said the ride would take about 45 minutes, it actually took about 90 minutes at high speed. After those 90 minutes, the captain said we had arrived at the area where whale sharks tend to be found and now it was just a matter of finding them. We spent another hour or so looking for the whale sharks. By this time, we were all bored and half the tourists were getting seasick. Then one of the other tour boats called on the radio to let our captain know that a whale shark had been spotted. We raced over to that area which took about 20 minutes. By the time we got to that area, there were already around 60 boats that had formed a circle to surround the one whale shark, and more boats on the way. After waiting for about 30 minutes, I asked the captain how long we were going to wait. As we had stopped moving forward, the rocking from the waves were making our sea sickness much worse. The captain mentioned that there was a whale shark and boats were taking turns letting people jump in and see it. We were 13th in line! By this point, I was ready to just give up and return to the hotel. However, the captain said that we could not head back for another couple of hours and that all the boats had seasick customers! Pretty soon, the whale shark managed to sneak away, and our captain had to move along. We were just happy to move again to settle our stomachs a bit. After another hour of looking for more whale sharks, he announced that we would not be able to see any on this trip. I personally did not care as I just wanted to get back. Then the captain got a message from another tour boat about another sighting. We then changed course and headed to that area. When we got there, there were only a handful of other boats, so we got ready to jump in. We were all supposed to get three dives. However, several people were so seasick, they were just not in the mood. This was just as well as the seas were rough which made it very difficult to swim and water kept getting in the snorkel. I personally only jumped in once for a 5 second view of the shark swimming by. Most other people waived their additional dives. By now, I was feeling very bad for the whale sharks as all the tour boats (more had arrived since we first got there) again formed a circle as if to try and prevent the creatures from leaving. Additionally, though only two tourists were allowed to jump in at a time, I guess this was per boat and there were probably over 20 people in at any one time. Once we were done, we finally headed in. This took over an hour into the sun and we ended up with the worse sun burn in years. We stopped at Isla Mujeres for a little less than 30 minutes and were allowed to disembark. This turned out to be the only good part of the whole trip, but we had to stay by the boat; could not even go to the island itself. The boat crew made some ceviche for us (I did not care to have any). After this short stop we went back to Cancun to wait for the shuttle, and finally back to the hotel. We walked into the hotel at 6pm. Basically a 12 hour day, for a 5 second view of a whale shark. While whale sharks are beautiful creatures, this trip was not worth the expense or the time. There are many other more enjoyable things I could have done on this wasted day. By the way, there are no bathrooms on the boat!
