Amazing Tour with Beto and Amigo Tours - I just returned from an incredible tour with Amigo Tours and can confidently say it was a 10/10 experience! Our guides, Beto and Pastor, were fantastic. Not only did they provide insightful information about Chichen Itza, but they also deeply valued and shared the rich culture of the Mayan community. I was especially impressed by how they highlighted the importance of tourism that directly supports local communities.
Beto’s storytelling was captivating—he presented the history and significance of Chichen Itza in such an engaging and visual way. One of the highlights was when Beto got members of our group involved to help illustrate the relationship between the sun, earth, and Venus. This hands-on demonstration made understanding the Mayan calendar so much easier and more memorable!
I’ve traveled to over 30 countries, and Beto is honestly one of the best tour guides I’ve ever had. His passion for his work and the culture was truly infectious. A big thank you to Beto and Pastor for making this an unforgettable experience!

Great tour guide Rodrigo and driver Manual - Great tour, better to do early since it’s get hot. Little disappointed since tour company didn’t contact us that they were running late.considering early morning tour, that would’ve given us some extra time to get breakfast instead of waiting to be picked up for an hour . Otherwise great tour

Amazing Myan History - Amazing archeological site, Ruth was our wonderful guide, very knowledgeable and fun! Enjoyed having a little time to explore on our own after her presentation. Would definitely recommend the early morning tour, the lines were crazy long when we left.

Arrived before the crowds - Very good tour that arrived to Chichen Itza before it was crowded. There was the normal attempt to upsell you on souvenirs but not overbearing.

Carmen was an excellent... - Carmen was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable and funny. Showed us all the best places to take pictures. The cenote was beautiful. It was a very long day of travel but worth it. I highly recommend doing the early tour...the place was overly crowded when we left.

OK if you've never been to Chichen Itza before but be informed! Wouldn't recommend for return visitors. - Friendly tour guides, but the tour itself wasn't enjoyable and the English speaking guide that my group got unfortunately was difficult to understand. Bus driver was watching a show on full volume (without headphones) while we were stopped for 20-25 mins waiting for them to pick up people from other hotels. Other people on the bus & I looked at each other because we were trying to figure out where the noise was coming from, so I stood up and walked up the bus to find out it was the bus driver...how inconsiderate. The bus did have AC, which was nice, but they assigned us seats, which would have been fine if they didn't split up my group of 4...we didn't even sit in the same row. There is a bathroom on the bus and the guides made it a point that you can only use it for #1, so you better make sure you go before the tour!
This is my second time visiting Chichen Itza to show my family around, and our guide often went on long rants about personal things/facts about himself & his family and jokes no one could understand, instead of focusing on just information about the ruins. They gave us maybe 5-10 mins of free time to take photos at Chichen Itza at the beginning of the tour, which felt rushed, then the walking tour began and the guide often stopped at one spot only to stop again a few inches away. It was also very hot, despite doing the early morning tour, so bring a handheld or neck fan (in addition to your hats) if going in the summer! and don't forget, you'll have to pay an additional $42 USD per person for the Chichen Itza tax, on top of your tour tickets. This amount kept increasing from when I first booked the tour $37) to the day of the tour ($42).
Also, as other reviews mentioned, the tour itself was like a money grab. The extra stops at shops, the guide trying to sell you on the obsidian stones after a massage demonstration on one of the tour guests, the pushy recommendations to purchase the Mayan calendars at $38 USD each. I assume like most tours, the guides usually get an extra commission/kickback from these shops. Even the newly added buffet lunch was an opportunity to make more money from us. I knew drinks weren't included in the lunch from the description, so we made sure to buy drinks from a convenience store, which was also our pickup location. To our surprise, when we were seated at the buffet restaurant for lunch, they told us we could not drink our own drinks we brought. The staff started forcefully taking drink orders from everyone, and there was no drink menu, so you don't know the price of the drinks. One couple from our tour group was paying at the end for their drinks, and I overheard it to be around $36 for 2 waters and some sodas and they did not look happy. So if you do order drinks at the buffet restaurant, just be sure to ask ahead of time for prices.

Mixed impression with a tourist trap - Mixed impression. On time pick up in front of my hotel. Smooth transportation. If you are planning this trip definitely choose 4:30am option over later morning departures, because late morning crowds are massive. There is definitely a tourist trap despite what the name specifically says you would not be exposed to. The guide sells “Mayan Calendar” specific to your name and date of birth for $25. Don’t buy it. It’s not something you can put on your office cubical wall at work. You get it on the way out and it’s a few print out pieces of paper, not bind or anything.

RUSHED and money focused - Overall the tour was fine. Everything was rushed. We were only given 30 mins to take photos after the guided tour. We were only given 1 hour and 15 mins to go to the cenote, tequila tasting AND eat at the buffet lunch - NOT enough time. They spent 30 minutes giving us a sales pitch. Lots and lots of wasted time. An unexpected stop to get ice cream which was nice. You can easily find better tours that allow you more time at the sights,

Do NOT use this tour company!!!!! Worst vacation experience I’ve ever had. - This was hands down the worst experience with a tour company I have ever had. We were supposed to get picked up at 6:05am in a very specific area (flags in front of our lobby). We waited there from 6:04am - 6:50am and no one ever came. They never took my phone number and called me. Sent me a message at 6:47 that we weren’t there and the driver left. And when I replied over and over to come get us they wrote nothing, just ignored me.
We waited there quietly for 45 minutes, woke up extremely early to do this tour after a long day of travel and no sleep, and this was the highlight of our week. We were stunned and devastated. I could not believe they just never got us.
There was no miscommunication about the location and we were in the right place at the right time. They said that the driver took a video that we weren’t there. What happened is he looked from the lobby over to the flag area without ever walking down the steps. We were out of view. But we were right where we were supposed to be. They refuse to refund us, it has been a complete nightmare. They basically stole money from us after treating us horribly. I had to go through Viator, spend the whole morning on the phone and writing emails. And then go back and forth with them throughout my vacation. I supplied proof of where we were (a photo taken at 6:06am) and because of this Viator refunded the tour tickets but Amigo Tours refuses to refund the $100 I spent on park fees and life jacket rentals. I am still trying to dispute it with my card company.
I have never had such bad communication and treatment from their customer service representative. Especially after they messed up so badly. It was horrible. DO NOT USE THIS TOUR COMPANY!!!! DO NOT PAY THE PARK FEE UNTIL YOU ARE WITH THEM IN THE VAN!!!! They don’t care about their treatment of you whatsoever.
