- Athabasca Glacier - IceWalks’ ACMG certified guides will meet you in the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre parking lot and gear you up for an unforgettable 3 hour interpretive glacier adventure. You will be shuttled a short distance to the trailhead. This 5 km roundtrip walking tour will take you onto the Athabasca Glacier and into the incredible landscape that is the Canadian Rockies. You will learn the rich history of the glacier and you will have spectacular views of the glaciated mountains. You will learn about and explore the many incredible ice formations on the glacier, which include: crevasses, mill wells (waterfalls into the depths of the ice), meltwater streams, and icefalls (from a safe distance). This will be the highlight of your trip on the Icefields Parkway. The pictures you take will capture the memories of a lifetime. No technical climbing experience required! Our tours are moderate in difficulty, suitable for young children who enjoy hiking and active seniors.

Your friendly and informative guide will explain the natural history of the area and show you the many ice formations on the glacier.

Arrive 20 minutes prior to your departure.
Meet in the West parking lot of the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre. Look for the white vans with IceWalks logo as you pull off the highway.
From there you will be shuttled a short distance to the trailhead.

Fabulous glacier hike - We took a guided glacier hike with Mike and it was one of the highlights of our Canadian trip. He was very knowledgeable and kept the group moving at a good pace - we were able to take pictures and enjoy the scenery and easily complete the hike. He shared his extensive knowledge and made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the trip.

An Unforgettable Experience - What an awesome way to spend a sunny day! We appreciated the extra clothing we were provided to keep the hike enjoyable in the glacial winds. Tyler was an amazing guide, stopping often to teach us about glaciers as well as photo ops. We saw a crevasse and a glacial river & learned about the depth and age of the ice. I’m so glad we chose this way to enjoy the many glaciers instead of the bus. There was so much more to experience by having more time to be on the glacier.

Awesome experience! - Very cool experience! Tyler was an awesome and knowledgeable guide and the the company provided us with windbreakers and wind pants, and also had other cold weather items and hiking boots available.

Beautiful glacier up close - Emilee was fun and knowledgeable throughout the hike, stopping along the way to show and teach us things. It was so cool to see the different features of the glacier up close.
Definitely a long walk but never tooo strenuous.

What.an.experience! - Fantastic experience! Very special to undertake and Jason was extremely knowledgable throughout the trip. Probably the best tour and experience we had in our 3 week honeymoon through Canada!

So worth it! - This was such a great tour! The path to get on the glacier was longer than expected but Larry made it fun and adventurous. Once on the glacier, we saw lots of interesting ice features. You will need to be able to hike a few miles, especially if the glacier keeps receding. Highly recommend this tour!

Great experience - My husband and I took our adult kids and daughter in law on this excursion. We spent extended time on the glacier, learned a lot about the glacier and even filled our water bottles with glacier water! Adam was our guide and he was great! He answered all questions and took time with everyone (our group only had 12 people) and took photos for everyone! Money well spent and very personal experience.
