- Spiral Tunnels - The Lower Spiral Tunnels Viewpoint is a remarkable location in Yoho National Park, situated in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia. It is celebrated for its sweeping views of the renowned Spiral Tunnels, a feat of engineering by the Canadian Pacific Railway. These tunnels were constructed to enable trains to traverse the steep inclines of the Kicking Horse Pass safely, avoiding the perilous grades that would otherwise be too steep for trains to manage.
From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy an excellent view of the tunnels as trains wind through the mountainside, vanishing and reappearing along the tunnel’s curves. It’s a fascinating sight, as it’s hard to believe a train can navigate such a complex route through the mountain, even when viewed from above.
- Takakkaw Falls - Takakkaw Falls is among the most breathtaking waterfalls in Canada, located in Yoho National Park within the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia. With a total height of 373 meters (1,224 feet), it ranks as one of the tallest waterfalls in the nation. The name “Takakkaw” is derived from a Cree word meaning “it is magnificent,” aptly describing this awe-inspiring natural wonder.
The waterfall is nourished by the Daly Glacier, and its waters cascade down in two main stages, creating a striking visual spectacle. The surrounding area is accessible via a short hike, making it a favored destination for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike. During the summer, the falls are particularly impressive when the snowmelt is at its peak.
