Travel to the Egyptian Museum, situated at Al-Tahrir Square in the heart of Cairo. This museum is the largest of its kind in the world, showcasing Egyptian antiquities. Visitors can explore artifacts from Egypt’s Pharaonic periods, with around 250,000 pieces that span the entire history of ancient Egypt, covering the past five thousand years. The museum’s exhibits are renowned for their historical and artistic significance, with the most famous being the magnificent “Tutankhamun” collection. Additionally, there are statues of Akhenaten, the father of monotheism, and his wife Nefertiti.
Proceed to Old Cairo to visit the Coptic area, including The Hanging Church of the Virgin Mary. This church, located in Haret Zuweila, is the oldest in the district, near the Fatimid section of Cairo. Likely constructed around the 10th century AD, it was first documented in the early 12th century during the consecration of a new bishop under Pope Macarius. From approximately 1400 AD to 1520 AD, it served as the Seat of the Coptic Orthodox Pope of Alexandria.
Next, visit the Abu Serga Church, also known as Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church, in Coptic Cairo. This is one of Egypt’s oldest Coptic churches, dating back to the 4th century. It is traditionally believed to be built on the site where the Holy Family—Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus—rested at the end of their journey into Egypt. Joseph may have worked at the fortress while they lived here. The church holds significant historical importance, as many patriarchs of the Coptic Church were elected here, starting with Patriarch Isaac (681-692). It served as the episcopal church of Cairo and the episcopal See of Masr, replacing the former See of Babylon. Many bishops were consecrated here until the reign of Patriarch Christodulus (1047–1077).
Visit a factory to learn about the production of perfume and papyrus, and discover the magic of the East. This is a great opportunity to purchase souvenirs.
Enjoy lunch with a middle-class Egyptian family, where you will be warmly welcomed with a drink. Experience cooking lunch with the family, followed by afternoon tea or coffee and general conversation. After lunch, return to your hotel.
