Constructed in the 12th century, this citadel was designed to protect Cairo from the Crusaders. It served as the residence of the king and his government in Egypt, and the magnificent Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha is prominently situated at the highest point within the Citadel of Saladin.
Next, the tour will proceed to the Coptic buildings in Cairo, including the Monastery of St. Simon the Tanner, also known as the Cave Church. This church is located in the Mokattam hills area near the Zabbaleen slum, or Garbage City, which is Cairo’s largest informal settlement of garbage collectors. It is the largest church in the Middle East.
The tour will conclude at Khan El Khalili Bazaar, one of the oldest markets in the Middle East. Visitors can wander through its narrow alleyways, shop for souvenirs, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Cairo’s historic marketplace.
