- Busan Gamcheon Culture Village - Gamcheon Culture Village boasts a unique charm, with houses built in a staircase fashion on the slopes of a coastal mountain, earning it the nickname “Machu Picchu of Busan.” The alleys are vibrantly adorned with murals and sculptures crafted by the residents.
- Busan Tower - Busan Tower is an iconic symbol of Busan, standing 69 meters above sea level with a height of 120 meters. The top of the tower is inspired by the baldaquin of Dabotap Pagoda in Bulguksa Temple, Gyeongju.
Beloved by both locals and tourists, the tower offers a breathtaking night view and features attractions such as the Statue of the Great Admiral Yi Sun-sin, the Bell of the Citizens, a flower clock, and a bust of the Busan-based independence activist, Baeksan An Hee-je.
- BIFF Square - Transformed into a cultural tourist attraction to promote Korea’s film industry, BIFF Square has elevated Busan’s status as an international cultural tourist city. The 428-meter-long street, stretching from Buyeong Theater in Nampo-dong to the overpass in Chungmu-dong, is divided into “Star Street” and “Festival Street.” On the eve of the festival each year, the “BIFF Square Ground Opening” is held, featuring events like the hand printing of famous movie celebrities and Nunggot Jeomdeung (snow-flower lighting). A district like BIFF Square, bustling with first-run theaters, is rare not only in Asia but also in Europe, making it highly promising. Recently, the square has evolved into a more complex area, featuring not only movie theaters but also shops and leisure facilities, attracting increasing numbers of young visitors and tourists.
- Jagalchi Market - Located on the shoreside road in Busan’s Jung-gu, Jagalchi Market is Korea’s largest seafood market, offering both live and dried fish. After the Korean War, it established itself as a fish market. Most vendors are women, known as Jagalchi Ajumma, with “ajumma” meaning middle-aged or married woman in Korean.
This market is a symbol of Busan and is famous nationwide. Visitors can enjoy fresh raw fish right at the market. Even today, visitors can see women selling mackerel, sea squirts (ascidians), and whale meat on wooden boxes along the road outside the market and along the shore.
- Gukje Market - Following the Korean War, refugees who fled to Busan set up stalls to make a living, marking the beginning of Gukje Market (“gukje” means “international” in Korean). Gukje Market is one of Korea’s largest markets, with each alleyway bustling with stalls, connecting to Bupyeong Market, Kkangtong Market, and other smaller markets. The market offers such a wide variety of goods that you can find almost everything you need here.
- Taejongdae - Designated as a Busan monument along with Oryukdo Island, Taejongdae is a symbol of Busan, renowned for its rocky beach. With its highest peak at 250 meters, it features forests of pine trees and 200 other tree varieties. Taejongdae was named after King Taejong Mu-Yeol (604-661), the 29th king of the Silla Kingdom (57 BC-AD 935). King Taejong traveled to many places, but this was his favorite spot for archery.
Beneath the lighthouse of this resort is a rock called Sinseon Rock, named after the myth that gods and goddesses descended here to relax. At this rock is a figure called Mangbuseok, named after the story of a woman who waited for her husband taken to Japan. Taejongdae is also famous for the ritual of praying for rain, performed during droughts, with rain on the 10th day of the fifth lunar month called “Taejong Rain.” On clear days, you can see Japan’s Tsushima Island from the observatory.
- Haeundae-gu - Haeundae Beach is Busan’s most famous beach. The white sand beach stretches approximately 1.5 km long, over a 30-50 m wide area, creating a picturesque coastline before a shallow bay, making it ideal for swimming.
Every summer, people flock to Haeundae Beach. The area around the beach has developed a range of accommodations, from luxury hotels to private guesthouses, making it the perfect summer vacation spot. Haeundae Beach is also known for various cultural events and festivals held throughout the year. Other facilities in the area include Dongbaek Island, Busan Aquarium, a yachting dock, BEXCO, driving courses, and more.
- Shinsegae Dept. Store Centum City - The Shinsegae Centum City Department Store is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest shopping complex in the world. The department store offers an extensive range of items all under one roof. Visitors can also enjoy numerous entertainment options within the complex. Shinsegae, which opened Korea’s first department store, brings decades of retail experience to this flagship location. Some of the entertainment facilities available include a spa and an ice rink.
Globally renowned experts, such as Italian architect Claudio Silvestrin and the American architecture and design firm Callison, completed Centum City under the concept of a “golden sea.” The department store has become a defining landmark in Busan.
