- Cementerio de la Recoleta - The stunning sculptures in Recoleta Cemetery reflect the rich history of this beautiful country. Many of Argentina’s most influential and controversial figures are laid to rest here, including the renowned first lady, Evita. Discover the secrets and stories behind the sculptures. This private tour will guide you to the most beautiful and often overlooked works. This historic cemetery is a ‘must-see’. Please note that the entrance fee of approximately $15 USD is not included in the tour price.
- Recoleta - Here, it becomes clear why Buenos Aires is nicknamed ‘The Paris of South America’. This neighborhood boasts many of the city’s most luxurious palaces, homes, cafes, and high-end shopping. Stroll through some of the city’s most exclusive and beautiful streets, appreciating the rich architecture, history, and charm.
- Plaza General San Martin - Enjoy 360-degree views of historical architectural excellence. Retiro train station, the British Tower, the Kavanaugh Building (the city’s first skyscraper and an excellent example of ‘rationalist architecture’), the Palacios San Martin and Paz - all are visible from the Plaza named in honor of Argentina’s most celebrated hero, Jose San Martin. From here, take the subway - a masterpiece in itself - to the next destination.
- Obelisco - The Obelisco is the focal point of the 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world. This area is also the heart of Buenos Aires’ version of ‘Times Square’. Buenos Aires is consistently ranked among the top 10 cities worldwide for live theatre, and here you will see that on full display, with the beautiful Teatro Colón and numerous Broadway-style theatres all around. Walk down the Diagonal Norte, continuously in view of the Obelisco, to the next destination.
- Plaza de Mayo - Home to the ‘Pink House’ (Argentina’s version of the ‘White House’), the national Cathedral (where Pope Francis once worked!), the Cabildo (Argentina’s first government building when it was still a Spanish colony), plus many other exquisite and historical buildings. The Plaza de Mayo is as fascinating as it is beautiful.
- San Telmo - In the early days of Buenos Aires, San Telmo was home to the city’s wealthiest families. A series of yellow fever epidemics led the wealthy to move to the outskirts of the city (now Recoleta and Retiro), and San Telmo began its decadent decline. Artists and the working class soon moved into the mansions, transforming the neighborhood into what it is now beloved for: a bohemian haven for antiques, tango, cafes, bars, and restaurants, as well as the famous San Telmo Street Market held every Sunday. This is a fantastic area for shopping, snacking, watching some street tango, and soaking in the relaxed city vibe.
- La Boca - Home to the country’s original port, La Boca is now best known for its vibrant streets full of tango, art, and fútbol (soccer!). La Boca’s rich history is still very much alive in the many conventillos (tenement housing for the old port’s labor force) now converted into cafes, steakhouses, and souvenir shops. Like San Telmo, this is a wonderful area to learn about the city’s humble beginnings, enjoy some local flavors and tango, and pick up a keepsake or two. At the end of the tour, you’ll be transported back to your accommodation, where you can cherish all the memories created on this remarkable day.
