unforgettable - We visited Bran Castle at the beginning of April and honestly loved the whole experience. The weather was still a little cold and foggy which somehow made the castle feel even more magical and creepy in the best way possible 😅 The area around the castle was beautiful, with mountains and little market stalls nearby. Inside, it was much more interesting than we expected. lots of narrow staircases, old wooden rooms, and little hidden corners. It really felt like stepping into a different time period. It does get touristy, but going in early April was actually perfect because it wasn’t insanely crowded yet. Definitely one of our favorite stops in Romania.

Would absolutely recommend if you're visiting Bucharest! - An absolute must if you're staying in Bucharest! Otilia and Narcis made it an effortless day with great communication throughout the tour. Otilia also gave in-depth info throughout the whole journey, including the cities you pass through, Romanian culture, the surrounding Carpathian mountains, history of Brasov, and obviously the castles themselves. I would also recommend doing this at the start of your trip as Otilia gave some great recommendations of places to eat in Bucharest! Check for your message the day before and turn up on time (15 mins before set off) and bring cash if you want to enter the castles, and you'll have a great day! As other reviews suggest, enter with expectations that Bran castle has become a tourist trap and a bit gimmicky and just enjoy the history of it regardless. We got the ticket package for both castles at student rate for ~£30, which was quite a bit of a discount compared to full price but I would definitely recommend it over chancing it on the day. If you have to choose, Peles castle was the highlight of the day! Aside from its gothic vibes, every cranny seemed to have a story behind it and the castle was furnished with amazing attention to detail.

A good option if you are... - A good option if you are short on time and based in Bucharest. We did Peles Castle, then lunch in Brasov, then Bran Castle. We got 1.5-2 hours at each stop. There are lots of tour groups so both castles were very busy. Note: entry into the castles is extra, and the driver and the guide hope for tips at the end (so bring cash). The day is long because of the distances and traffic (we left at 7am and returned to Bucharest at almost 8.30pm). Bus was clean and quite comfortable (but you can't eat on it). Tour guide was quite knowledgeable. If you want to explore Brasov, bring your own lunch because restaurants take their time serving you and prepping food. If we had more time, we would have liked to stay a night in Brasov or Sinaia and done each castle on different days.

Castles and Brasov day trip visit. - We left the pick up point on time, which was good as I had booked tickets for the first place to see, Bran Castle, and we arrived just before the time I had booked. It's a lot cheaper to go to the Bran Castle website to buy your entry tickets, as opposed to buying them through the travel company sites. Bran Castle was interesting and worth the £10 entry fee for my wife and I. I would have been a bit disappointed if I had paid much more for the tickets. Next stop was the city of Brasov for lunch. Our guide took us the the old town and the architecture was interesting. A 5 min walk from the centre is the Black Church. We had lunch in a traditional Romania restaurant and had a traditional meal of Beef Goulash, which was very nice. After our stop of 1 1/2 hours we left for our next location, Pele Castle. I did not pay extra to go inside the location, I would not have called it a Castle in the true sense, more like a stately home, however, externally it was very impressive. After a 2 hour stop it was back to Bucharest and arrived back at 8pm. It was a full and interesting day, well worth doing to see more of the country. From the UK I paid almost £50 for the trip, but there were many other companies offering the same for a lot more money. Our tour operator was well priced for what they were offering.

A castle of a myth. - A typical basic medieval castle with narrow stairs and wonderful views. Dracula, of course, never existed. Seen one medieval castle is enough for me. An entry level home in the U.S. is more comfortable dwelling than a medieval castle.

Extremely disappointed - We were asked on the bus to buy tickets to the one house and over charged. We were seniors and not given that rate as posted. The towns are adorable… we loved them. I booked through Viator and others booked through another company.. At the meeting point in the am there was no sign to show us where to go and very little help from the guides. Our ticket said departure was at 7:00 am, the others were told departure was at 6:50. When we got there there were only a few seats left and my husband and I couldn’t sit together . We left at 6:50. The guide was HORRIBLE!!! He was rude and disrespectful to several of the people on the trip. He constantly told us if e were late he would leave us. His name was Mihai. He walked off several times before the whole group was there leaving us confused. I have never seen a tour director be so rude, disrespectful, and unhelpful.

Dracula tour - Long trip, first stop too short, not worth visiting castle in that time. Second stop perfect, nice place. Third stop, beautiful castle! However, tickets cost there at the castle, 100 lei (20 euros), in the bus they are sold incl guide for 300 lei (60 euros). Incredible! Bus driver was speeding, everywhere, ran a red light. The tour guide told fine. Wouldn't do this this way again. Incidentally, very nice to see the surroundings outside Bucharest, beautiful nature.
