• Papageno Statue - Our family heritage. Our grandfather was an artist, a sculptor. He lived and worked in the Bruges region and made many contributions to its cultural heritage. Here we see Papageno, the bird catcher! In the end, love and courage prevail.
• Stadsschouwburg Theater - The Bruges City Theatre is a beautifully preserved 19th-century theatre located in the historic center of Bruges. Opened in 1869, it features an elegant red-and-gold interior in classic “bonbonnière” style.
• Burg Square - The Lovers sculpture is a bronze statue created by an Italian - Bruges couple, Canestraro-Depuydt. The artwork depicts an embracing couple and contrasts with the historic surroundings, symbolizing timeless love in the heart of the city.
• Stadhuis - The original medieval statues were lost over time and replaced in the 19th century. The current sculptures were created by Canestraro-Depuydt. Listen to stories about the lost statues, the French Revolution, and the Iconoclasm in the Low Countries.
• Basilica of the Holy Blood - The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a unique double chapel on Burg Square. The lower chapel, built in the 12th century, is Romanesque and very sober, while the upper chapel is richly decorated in Gothic style. It houses a revered relic believed to contain the blood of Christ. Inside the basilica, the oldest surviving sculpture in Bruges depicts the Baptism of Christ. This Romanesque artwork shows Jesus Christ being baptized by John the Baptist. It dates back to the 12th century and reflects the simple yet powerful style of early medieval religious art.
• Vismarkt - The Vismarkt is a picturesque square where fish has been sold since the 19th century. Surrounded by elegant white columns, the only building from our period under the Netherlands. It reflects Bruges’ long tradition of trade and connection to the sea. The bust of Frank Van Acker, who served as mayor of Bruges from 1977 to 1995 can be seen here. He played a key role in preserving the historic city and promoting Bruges as a cultural and tourist destination.
• Gruuthusemuseum - The Gruuthuse-Hof, once the residence of the Lord of Gruuthuse, is an important example of Bruges’ rich architectural heritage. Here, we’ll see the ‘Apocalypse’, a sculpture by Belgian artist Rik Poot. The work depicts a dramatic and expressive scene inspired by themes of the end times, featuring dynamic human figures in tension and movement.
• Guido Gezelle Monument - The monument dedicated to Guido Gezelle in Bruges honors one of Flanders’ most important literary figures. The statue reflects Gezelle’s deep connection to nature, language, and spirituality, themes that strongly influenced his poetry.
• Site Oud Sint-Jan - The Sint-Janshospitaal is one of the oldest surviving hospital buildings in Europe, dating back to the 12th century. It functioned as a place of care for pilgrims, the sick, and the poor. The bust of Isaac De Meyer symbolizes the history of medical care in Bruges, honoring a doctor who played an important role in the city’s healthcare tradition.
• Walplein - Walplein is a small, cozy square in Bruges known for its relaxed atmosphere, historic buildings, and outdoor cafés and of course, our world famous brewery ‘De Halve Maan’. The sculpture group is made by our Grandfather, Jef Claerhout, is inspired by Greek mythology. Listen to the myth about Zeus Leda, Pegasus, the winged horse. Step into the carriage and listen to our story about freedom and imagination.
• The Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde - The Beguinage is a peaceful historic convent area with white houses and a quiet courtyard, once home to beguines.
• Minnewater Lake - Minnewater, also known as the Lake of Love, is a romantic and scenic spot in Bruges, famous for its swans, peaceful park, and picturesque views. It is a must-see location for its calm atmosphere and beautiful setting. Roman at its best! Here, we’ll find decorative horse head sculptures, made by our Grandfather, symbolizing the city’s historic connection to horses and transport.
• Coupure (Brugge) - A contemporary sculpture by Ugo Dehaes is located near the Coupure and the small marina (jachthaven) in Bruges. The work reflects the relationship between the human body and space.
• Coupure (Brugge) - The sculpture Marieke, part of our family heritage, evokes themes of love, memory, and longing. Together with the love songs of Jacques Brel, it reflects the emotional landscape of Flander, the flat countryside between Ghent and Bruges. Here, we’ll discover the connection between this region and feelings of lost love, nostalgia, and melancholy.
• Jan Van Eyckplein - Jan van Eyckplein is a charming canal-side square in Bruges, named after the painter Jan van Eyck, one of the great masters of Flemish Primitives. Known for his pioneering use of oil paint, he created highly detailed and realistic works that had a lasting influence on European art.
• Poorters Loge - The Poortersloge is a historic Gothic building that once served as a meeting place for Bruges’ wealthy citizens and merchants. Here you will find the statue of the Brugse Beer (Bruges Bear), the city’s mascot, linked to the first Count of Flanders.
