- Juan de Fuca Provincial Park - As the journey passes by the Juan de Fuca Trail, it enters Jurassic Grove. This magnificent grove of ancient trees feels like stepping back 10,000 years, to the time after the last glaciation. The ancient rainforest in this grove is enchanting, and nothing compares to the old-growth cedar groves of Vancouver Island. Here, one can witness 1,000-year-old cedar trees in their full splendor, some reaching 90 meters/270 feet in height and over 3 meters/10 feet in width. This is a backcountry trail, and the guide will safely lead visitors through this hidden gem, providing a unique experience, as they are the only operator on the island offering this exploration.
- Shirley Delicious - Lunch will be enjoyed at this wonderful café, providing a bit of downtime, a bathroom break, and Wi-Fi access between adventures. They also offer a small selection of books and souvenirs.
- Sandcut Beach - Sandcut Beach is a delightful playground for all ages. From young children to more seasoned individuals, this sand and pebble beach features a stunning double-header waterfall. Beyond the waterfall, low tide reveals tide pools to explore, with mussels larger than a hand and anemones covering the rocks. A giant drift log offers the perfect photo opportunity, and the cascading waters, flowing off the cliff, are ideal for slipping behind for a peek and a look behind the fall.
- Muir Creek Beach - The final stop is where lunch will be enjoyed in the company of harbor seals basking in the sun. While dining, the seals can be seen napping on the rocks off the beach, and with some luck, they might be spotted during their lunch hour as well. These seals (and occasionally otters) enjoy the kelp forest and rocky shores where fish, eels, and shellfish hide before becoming a meal. Marvel at a bald eagle’s nest high in the trees and listen for their gentle call announcing their takeoff into the air for some soaring and fishing.
